Wednesday, Mar 10 2010 - Mysterious Rash???
View JOY300's food & exercise for this day
A mysterious rash began to form on my lower legs and on my neck and face. I had originally thought it was psoriasis but then it was red and bumpy. On my face I thought it was acne, but every time I had put on my makeup that I always wear it gave me red blotches and it would sting to high heaven. I went to the dermatologist and he asked if I was eating anything different. I told him the past month my whole diet had changed. I stopped eating meat and was strictly into soy products and plant derived foods. So he took a blood test and some cultures of my skin. So over the whole period of the last 2 weeks he told me that it could be the soy protein that I am taking. Usually soy based products produce a minimal amount of estrogen and to some women it could be beneficial but to others it could be more toxic. In my case it was toxic. I have stopped taking it since Friday and my face isnt red anymore and my legs have healed up some. (I had scratched it so much it scabbed) So he told me to take the whey since my body had not reacted to it. He told me to seek the guidance of a licensed nutritionist if I was going to remain on a vegetarian diet. So I made an appointment to see a nutritionist and I am going to see her on Thursday. Let see what she says.
I have completed over a month of vegetarian meals. 32 days to be exact. I have noticed some benefits and some not so good things.
I am now incorporating fish to give me more protein options.
I have been lacking in some protein because of the new diet. I still had egg whites and nuts but it wasn't enough for me. I hope this works out and does my body good!

Glad you figured out what caused the rash! YIKES! I actually can't stand soy protein, it's too gummy for me.
As for the flax, I use ground flaxseed meal. I don't take pills, but may get the oil to put into smoothies since the flax is usually left in my cup after I'm done with the smoothie.
Congrats on the success with the vegetarian diet so far!
