Saturday, May 1 2010 - So much for a light lunch
View KERILARNED's food & exercise for this day
This week was a great week for me. I hit the gym 4 days this week, which is probably an all time record. I've found the class for me. My gym has Zumba. If you've never gone to a class, its an amazing calorie burning class. I love it. In college I danced all the time, ballroom, salsa...you name it, I danced. People always say "find something you really like to do and do that for exercise." Well, rarely have I found a class that is dancing, dancing...until my gym started this class. I think I've gone to 6 different classes and I love it. I wear a heart rate monitor when I exercise so that I know exactly how many calories I am burning and I never leave class burning less that 500 cal. If I kick it up a notch, I know i can burn even more. I find myself rearranging my appointments and my kids nap time, to fit around a class. Its high energy and just a great time.
So after having a fantastic week of workouts, I head (reluctantly) to a tea with some girlfriends. I ate an apple and string cheese before I went, so I could eat light and feel good about my choices. To my surprise, when I came home to calculate my calories for my very light (and not nearly satisfying) lunch. I filled my tiny luncheon plate with lots of fresh fruit pineapple, strawberries and blueberries (I should have skipped the pineapple!!), maybe a cup of a premixed/dressed salad, a scone (which was 1/3 the size of a regular scone, if that) and one lemon bar and one brownie bite (which was more like a half bite) and my grand total was 700 calories. Thank goodness I only drank water!!! Granted, I'd rather over estimate calories, than under estimate, but still, for choosing the healthier items instead of the sandwiches with cream cheese or having a ton of salad, I wasn't too thrilled. I should have skipped eating all together and come home to something far more filling. It just goes to show that your choices that seem to be healthier, may not be...so be careful, or be prepared to work out at the gym to work it off.
