KRIS319's CalorieKing blog

Monday, Oct 4 2010 - I can't believe I ate the whole thing!

View KRIS319's food & exercise for this day

It feels like the first real day back since my surgery. I actually ate some real food today and man am I STUFFED! If you look at my diary you'll crack up when you see what I'm stuffed with . . . hardly anything. Today was still slimfast, scrambled eggs and pureed chicken broccoli casserole. Didn't log everything in the casserole since it was only 4 tablespoons of cheesy chicken broccoli goo . . . mostly logging to make sure I get in all my protein. Need to have at least 60 grams daily. Gonna need to sip some skim milk tomorrow instead of water to get that protein up.

Anyway, for some reason I can't sleep. Narcotics and all. Gonna try again. Tomorrow maybe I will be up for a brief walk and that might help with better sleep.

Well . . . gonna get something to drink and see if bed is more inviting now.

Namaste

Feeling better every day. Trying to wean myself off the narcotic pain meds as I am starting to get low, and I would love to get my driving independence back after my follow-up with the surgeon on Monday. Unnofficial weigh-in today was 326.4 which is down seven pounds since the day of surgery.

I'm tolerating food much better for the most part, but sometimes eat that 1/3 - half cup meal to quickly which doesn't end too well. Getting most of my protein from a couple protein drinks each day but trying to work on some pureed meals with higher protein content . . . menu planning tonight.

I'm back to having my daily latte . . . with protein powder. Not as good as without, but packs a 23 gram protein punch.

@Swimmer10: I can drink water, but not as much as I used to . . . I was a 2 liter plus per day girl. Now I sip it to stay hydrated but I'm finding since it's so hard to drink enough throughout the day - can only drink 8 oz per hour max and cannot drink 30 minutes before eating and for 30 minutes after food - that I drink skim milk or low carb slimfast or a beverage with protein powder to make sure I get hydration plus the 60 - 80 grams of protein required per day.

I have two friends who have had bypass surgery and they both focus on protein. Take care and enjoy the sips.

Hang in there! My friend had a gastric bypass and she would make all these protein smoothies (veggies and fruits combined with protein powder) and then freeze them in ice cube trays covered with Saran wrap and then poke toothpicks through the Saran wrap.

She would do the same with chicken stock and pieces of chicken. Warmed them up whenever she was hungry.

Wow, you're home!! I've been hoping and hoping you were alright. I know you must be exhausted and wired at the same time. I'm so happy to hear you are able to eat a little. I've been looking forward to hearing about your recovery and transformation. I'm so happy to hear you were able to go through with it, that work and home life didn't get in the way. It's wonderful you were able to do this for yourself. Good luck with the first step: GETTING SLEEP! I'll be watching for you, dear.
