Warning this post could be considered TMI
I was recently watching a recorded episode of the good doctor so I'm not exactly sure when it aired, but he was talking about the best time to do things. For instance, the best time to get up in the morning is 6:30, drink a glass of warm water and use the toilet at 6:35, then weigh yourself afterwards (I forget what time specifically, but it's after one urinates and has a bowel movement.) Well, I'm up at 5:30 because I must be out the door on my way to work by 6:30. I can't stomach warm water and the thought of it when I get up is nauseating. So, needless to say I don't follow his advice. I generally shower in the morning and weigh myself after I've dried off with the towel. This morning I weighed myself because I felt bloated and couldn't figure why. GASP! I "gained" 1.4 pounds overnight! I was only alarmed because that meant I was holding water which is bad for my blood pressure. (Water weight doesn't count in my books because it's in a constant state of fluctuation.) Anyway, a short while later I felt the urge so I grabbed some reading material and parked myself on the throne. Afterwards while washing my hands I remembered the episode of Dr. Oz and decided to weigh myself again - I was exactly one pound lighter. LOL! In reviewing what I ate yesterday I discovered to my horror that I consumed around 5,000 mg of sodium and most of that was at dinner. No wonder I was bloated this morning. I was too focused on calories and forgot to look at the other stuff like nutrients and sodium!

And the moral of the story is one should weigh oneself after one has emptied both the bladder and the bowel to get the lowest number. And one should always remember to focus on the big picture.:wave1:

I also read recently that you should drink a glass of water first thing in the morning. I read that it kick-starts the metabolism. Interesting stuff!! thanks for the post - very insightful!!
