Tuesday, Apr 21 2009 - Taking Responsibility for My Success

View LOVE2RUN's food & exercise for this day

We all need support from other people. Love, encouragement, words of advice and friendship will help you get through the important stages in your life. When people are in your corner, you feel like taking on any challenge. As important as help from others may be, though, it all has to start with you. If you're waiting for someone to solve your problems, or wondering when someone is "going to do something about that," you may be waiting a long time--unless you look to yourself first.

Take responsibility for your own situation and think of what concrete steps you'll take today to help it. If you're going to need help, it's only fair that the person with the most at stake (you) is willing to make the most effort. When someone is pulling you out of a hole and has grasped your hand, you still must take the first step to climb out, or you're just going to be hanging there.
*****************
Just as I blame others for derailing me, enabling me, sabotaging me, I need to take responsibility for my own actions, my own success, achieving my goals, challenges and commitments. It's not up to my spouse, my CK buddies, my fitness club, they all can contribute - to my success - but the biggest contribution needs to come from me.

Starting right here, right now, I accept responsibility for my actions and the consequences, good, bad or ugly, for said actions.

There, now it's in printed in black and white. No taking it back.

Susan,
Great Job! We change how we conceptualize, and then the reality we create begins to change also. I am really impressed with how you step up to bat! I want to play the game along with you!

You are so right! I have one friend in particular that is always making comments like "ok, now you've lost your weight, can you lose mine for me too" -- or "can you put your head on my body so that I'll be able to do it" -- support is one thing, but the determination has to come from within.....//you are getting so close to your goal -- the last few pounds are so hard to do!
