Saturday, May 9 2009 - Burn baby, burn!
View LOVE2RUN's food & exercise for this day
Stop, drop and burn. Nothing but nothing stops the workout. A forum topic has lead me to this entry. Halftheman pondering why someone can't workout without a gym and a member challenge - Up your minutes - organized by SMREXRO (Sarah).
I love exercise. I love intense, sweat dripping, face flushed, heart pounding, muscle failing, "OMG, can I do this?", exercise and I can find it any time, any where. But, let's face it, how much of that high intense exercise can a person do? I've always said "Moderation in all things" and try to live by that motto. Now I'm wondering, have I applied that to exercise? A neighbor once told me "you (me) work hard, play hard and rest hard". I've never thought of it (exercise) any other way.
The Forum topic and the challenge have stimulated my thinking process. Exercise can focus less on the intensity and more on the fun! What I thought of as R&R, playtime or even leisure, is movement. Movement = exercise. Not high intensity; but it doesn't need to be. A walk at lunch, rollerblading, playing at the park, racketsports, water games, playful wrestling with my spouse (he always gets carried away), walking the dog, working in the yard, speeding though housework. Heck, I've even designed a workout for my desk at work to combat the sheer boredom of my job. The harder you play, the more intense the burn.
You/I do not need the organization of a gym, the structure of a class, the predictability of a CD. Stop what your doing, drop down to the ground, and burn baby, burn! and when your tired, your muscles throbing, your energy level zapped; slow it down. A slow burn can be just as effective, when applied correctly, as a high intense burn. What's important is the fact that your body is moving and burning calories through said movement.
My favorite phrase from the CK program topic is "the human body was made to move". Let's move it people!

It is fun. Are you glad to see how Sarah has made that fun? I vary the intensity, duration, exercise, and setting of the workout a lot. That is how I 'live', and thrive, and succeed. See you soon--five alive!

I actually got down on the floor this morning to pull something out from under the bed. It hurts to put pressure on my knees so I avoid kneeling as much as possible. While I was down there I thought maybe I could do a pushup. I'm not that strong yet, but at least I made the effort. I don't know if I'll ever be able to do a "boy" pushup!
