Tuesday, May 26 2009 - Day 3 of the 4 day jump start
View LOVE2RUN's food & exercise for this day
The diet coke queen is surviving without the icy cold, fuzzy, caramel colored liquid flowing through my veins. It's not as difficult as I thought; yet, not as easy as I hoped. I think I'm ganna live, albeit
I don't want too!
I've not been able to go cold turkey. Mostly because my ever loving husband brought home 6 cold packs the same day I started this trek. So they're in the house, calling to me..
drink meeee....drinkkkk meee....DDRRIINNKKK MMEEE!
and I resist. Sorta. When I quit smoking eons and eons ago, I carried a cigarette around with me. When I couldn't stand it anymore, I would light up, take one or two drags and then put it out. By the time the end of the cigarette came around it tasted like licking an ashtray. Which helps enormously to cure the "wants". So, I'm applying the same philosophy (even though soda is not addicting! isnotisnotisnot!

) to my bubbly. Once it's flat, I don't want it anymore.
The first day I had 1/2 can all day. One sip at a time. By the end of the day, it was flat and I really didn't want it anymore. The second day, I crashed. I cracked open a can and drank half of it in one gulp. You know when an addict goes without their drug, (I'm not saying I'm an addict! amnotamnotamnot!

) and they fall off the wagon, how sweet that drug feels when they get a fix? Well, that was how my gulp felt. Man, that burp was good!
and then, I didn't have anymore the rest of the day. So 1/2 can the 1st day, 1/2 can the 2nd day and now the 3rd day I've had 3 sips. Maybe 1/4 can. It's getting easier. I don't have caffeine headaches at all, I'm taken Excedrin as needed and that is working fine. Down to 2 Excedrin a day. It's the habit itself that's hard to break. The bubbly is my pleasure enhancer, my sanctuary and...now it's gone.

Aggghhh, I am so struggling with the coffee. I think I will try the 12 Noon cut-off. I know it raises my cortisol levels and makes loosing belly fat harder, but I really love coffee.

Hi Susan... After reading your blog, I can't help but comment... I eliminated artificial sweeteners from my diet (I was the Splenda Queen) and noticed a huge difference in my appetite... When I was constantly eating/drinking products containing artificial sweeteners, I was ALWAYS hungry... No matter WHAT I ate... my stomach was literally a bottomless pit. While it's a sacrafice to make, I definitely think it's one well worth it! Once those "cravings" go away, I think you'll truly be amazed at how in control you feel over your hunger. By the way, why did you decided to "quit"???

One more message today, only because this is too funny.Drink me, Drink me.
When you said that you weren't getting headaches. something clicked in my mind. When I would try to quit or cut back on my 2-3 32 oz Diet Cokes from McD's and the 2 liters a day before I exercised the headaches and nervousment was bad. But when I quit completely about 3 months ago , no headaches or withdrawals at all. I think the exercise has an effect of some kind.
Maybe the same is for you? I've heard that you can get a carbonator for your facet. for that effervesent sensation.
