The middle ground. When it comes to relationships, weight loss, exercise, even eating healthier choices; there has got to be a middle ground. One could go on and on about the effects of extreme performance in any aspect of human behavior, these are just a few of my favorites...
In a relationship ~ one cannot dominate the other; for proper growth and development of the relationship, each individual needs to provide support for the other, allowing the other to grow while achieving their own growth potential. Growing-up never ends. While growing-up, it helps understanding and progressing along the journey to have a best friend who is growing-up with you, not dictating or predicting your every movement.
In weight loss ~ slow and steady defeats fast and furious; however, too slow and you won't be able to appreciate the progress, and who wants to take a whole month to lose a pound? Yes, it's progress and it's better than gaining; but when weight loss is the name of the game, the prize is accomplishing the task at hand. Go after that prize to quickly and you'll find it's made of glass that will quickly break and shatter when it's dropped.
In exercise ~ burn baby, burn can rapidly lead to burn-out and you won't be able to burn at all if your laid up with an injury. Attempting to acquire a taste for all physical activities will leave your skills underdeveloped. Instead of wondering around aimlessly, choose a few favorites for variety, and become an accomplished athlete at those choices.
When someone speaks of their passion for a new activity, I'll often find myself saying "I love doing that"; however, my one and true love belongs to running and running will always be my drug of choice. I flirt with other activities to allow the muscles to fully develop and recover from the stresses inflicted by my passion; however, I'll always, always return to my saving grace.
In healthy eating choices ~ eating is a required necessity in human survival; yet, eating disorders abound. Anorexia, Bulimic, Orthorexia, binging, multiple varieties of O.C.D. associated with eating styles, behaviors and/or types of foods. You name it and the human brain can fixate upon it and warp it into a mental disorder. Isn't the capabilities of the human brain amazing? We can turn ourselves into complete nut cases...
all because we we didn't take the path down the middle.
