View MAMAMARTINEZ's food & exercise for this day

Just got home from 2 days in the hospital with Chachi. This was definitely a weekend of highs and lows. He started getting a cold on Thursday, nothing big. Both of my girls have been pretty sick with a respiratory virus, so I figured he wouldn’t escape totally unscathed. He was pretty much just coughing and sneezing a bit Thursday and Friday. It’s was my birthday on Monday, so my husband took me out to dinner Saturday night while my mom watched the kids. For those of you who watched this season of Top Chef, we went to Fabio’s restaurant, Café Firenze. It’s about 10 minutes from my house, and I am a big Fabio fan. That dude is one hard worker! Our waitress said we could just walk up and ask him if we wanted a picture, so I did. He said, “Okay, les doow eeet.” Then he got busy for a minute or two checking dishes that were about to go out. When we finally took our pic, I could tell that he was trying very hard to be gracious and not rush us away, but he was truly busy. Here we are:

And, here is some food porn:

It was a great meal and a fun night. We went to see “Taken” at the over 21 movie theater (it sounds kind of seedy, but it’s a very nice, upscale new theater in our area). So great to watch a movie without obnoxious teenagers ruining it. So, it was an awesome weekend, until…

About 4 am Sunday morning, Chachi woke up to eat and started gasping and wheezing and choking on his own mucous. He could not get his breathe easily, so I took him to the ER that is about 2 miles from our house. Chest x-rays, blood tests, and a nasal swab confirmed that there isn't wasn’t pneumonia, RSV, or other such nastiness. But, he did have some serious chest congestion that was impeding his breathing. The ER doc considered admitting him, but after talking to his pediatrician, decided to send him home and we were to bring him back if he developed a fever or had further difficulty breathing. I was to take him in to the ped. 1st thing the next morning per Dr.'s orders. Here is poor Chahci in the ER:

By Sunday night he was a mess again. He was wheezing and straining, so much so that it would make him vomit. I called his pediatrician, and he decided to admit him. He was really great. He even came the hospital that night at 10:30 to check him. The general opinion is that he caught a virus (probably from one of the girls) that caused him to have bronchiolitis and it really compromised his ability to breathe. There was a lot of congestion in his lungs. We don't know exactly the cause yet, but probably a virus that an older kid would have been able to handle fine. He is just so little. He had to have oxygen therapy, breathing treatments (albutorol) and steroids for the inflammation in his lungs. He is on antbiotics as a precaution for whooping cough. He was off the oxygen for all of last night and is breathing much easier now. The Dr. says his lungs sound clear, but he still has a lot of nasal congestion. We are continuing breathing treatments at home until he is 100% better. We go back to the pediatrician on Thursday for a follow up, but he appears to be on the mend, praise Jesus. I am just praying that he continues to improve and does not backslide at all. It was pretty scary. We are just not used to having sick kids, and especially not sick enough to go to the hospital.

So, I am obviously behind on all of your blogs, but I can’t wait to catch back up with y’all. I hope everyone had a better weekend than I did! :heart2:

Ok, enough gushing. I hope the baby feels better soon. And thanks so much for the comment - it makes me feel a lot better to hear from a mom that it's ok to not invite small children!!!! (and maybe it's even BETTER to give you a reason not to bring them :laugh5: )

ackkkkkkk! I am so sorry that you had to go through all of that with little Chachi! When Olivia was little, every single time she got sick, it would be respitory and end the same way -- vomiting when she tried to breathe. //I hope he is all better now and you are able to get some rest!

I'm not sure how it's intended, but from what I've heard the bar is a very casual place with a mixed patronage, so I'm hoping fun. I don't know what the one at the bookstore will be like, but if I start yawning I'll leave and hit the bar early =D

NO FREAKING WAY!!!! I would die! I love Fabio :inlove1: I totally gasped when I saw that. YOu guys look great and he's so hot!! I am so sorry about your sweet boy being so sick. I understand that fear and I am so happy that he wasn't admitted. He looks so cute and small on that bed in the ER  I really hope that all the asthma meds are helping him now. I had no idea little little ones could have those, that is fantastic. I hope that he starts feeling better and you dont' have to go through all that again.

So cool that you got to pose with a celebrity chef! And definitely cool of him to be gracious about it when he was busy :thumbu2: Aw, poor Chachi, I'm glad he's getting better  Brooke had to have albuterol treatments when she was an infant, no fun at all. :(
