I had a great morning at the park yesterday. First I actually got my sorry self over there before 9 with a surprising number of other cheap skates, most of them apparently runners. Anyway I got my reward right away.

I crossed the road to the cabins and took the old 'trail' that cuts the corner to the main road. As I reached the rise just before dropping down to the road, I heard a mewing sound to my right which I thought was catbird. I tried to mimic the sound and it seemed to respond so I stepped into the brush thinking I might actually see the bird.

I was amazed to see the sound was actually coming from a wobbly legged fawn! When it sensed my approach, it got quiet and dropped to the ground but I got close enough to see it was still wet before I quickly left. I got my second treat a bit later. I saw my first Bobolink at the top of Tower Trail and then when I skirted the campground along the edge of the field I realized there was an entire flock of Bobolinks in the field! The sound was absolutely glorious.
