A New Challenge

Sunday, May 20th 2007

I think I'm going to have a much better chance of losing weight if I get over to the park at least 3 times a week but I just don't think it's worth $59 for a park passport. So the additional challenge is going to be getting over to the park before they start charging addmission at 9:00 and early enough that I still have some morning coolness to work in the garden. It would be a such great habit to get into and it would really only be for the next month or so until I'm comfortable on a bike again...

Saturdays

Saturday, May 19th 2007

Saturdays may prove to be the toughest day of the week. The routine has been the farmer's market with a stop at Pasta's Daily Bread for 2 stretch loaves of semolina. Not today. We're gonna miss that bread more than anything else. Even more than the cheese.

Tomorrow I'll try the F...

Exercise Calories

Thursday, May 17th 2007

Oatmeal on, sun and clouds, breezy and 51º/11º.

It hasn't dried out much after the rain Tuesday night so it's a good day to head over to the park for a long hike.

I'm not sure about the exercise numbers I'm seeing here; they seem to be inconsistent and almost arbitrary. I spent some time checking Calorie Lab and I think I'm going to set my own goals next week.

But I've cut out all the 'nibbling' and that's my biggest problem so I'll be eager to see what I've lost on Monday. ...

"The Lives of Others"

Wednesday, May 16th 2007

The title could refer to reading blogs which I'm still not entirely comfortable with, but in this case it's the title of a German movie we saw last night at our favorite movie house, The Palace. We both thought the film was wonderful; interesting, layered characters, dramatic tension heightened by a vivid portrayal of totalitarian oppression and a musical score that only added to the film.

Before the movie we had our first restaurant meal since we started dieting. I was easily satisfied w...
