View MARCYINCNY1's food & exercise for this day
Grisamore's website says the red raspberry fields are open for picking and I'm sitting here trying to decide if I will drive down this morning. I'm eager to see what the red raspberries and the sweet and sour cherries look like this year but it is early and it's about an hour's trip (albeit a beautiful drive) so I could wait until next week. (I'm probably not going to do anything about my 'check engine' light which has been on for the past 700+ miles before next week so that's really not a factor.)
The weather is unusually cool this morning and I keep thinking of the sweltering July weather we've had in the past during the raspberry season. My father was such a raspberry fiend; he and my mother would plan a visit this time every year and Dad and I would pick black raspberries (his real favorite) locally and then the four of us would take a day to drive down to Grisamore's and pick 15-20 quarts of red raspberries. We'd stop in Skaneateles on the way back for an early dinner at the original Doug's Fish Fry and then my mother and I would spend hours in the heat and humidity cleaning berries and making jam. Good times.
I grilled some wonderful Yukon River Chinook salmon with red alder chips last night but I didn't check ahead and I hadn't remembered salmon is higher in calories so it put me over yesterday. Still I enjoyed every mouthful and every one of those calories.
