Thursday, Sep 20 2007 - A Tale of Two Rides
View MARCYINCNY1's food & exercise for this day
I got on my road bike yesterday. It wasn't really a ride; I only went around the block but it was the first time I'd been on it in 5 years. It felt great and it felt awful. It was great to realize that riding the heavier Koga had actually gotten me in good shape to ride the lighter, faster road bike but damn, the handlebars are so low I don't know how long I can ride with so much weight forward on my hands and wrists. And I can't find my handlebar bag with my gloves so I didn't have any additional padding. I was disappointed not to be able to ride a few miles at least but I've got to find that bag and see if Jim can raise the handlebars a bit; it's not like I'm ever gonna race again or even do a 100 mile day.
Earlier we went for an entirely different kind of ride; I went along while Jim test drove a 2005 Mini Cooper S. It was like going back in time 36 years when we first met and he was driving an MG BGT. Or, for that matter, 25 years ago when he was driving an old BMW 2002. I love it but I don't know what he's going to do.

I know what you mean about the handlebars on the bike. I had a touring bike with drop handlebars. I debated about replacing the handlebars with straight bars but decided to sell the bike, as it had a male frame and was slightly too big for me, and bought a new one built for a female. I sit upright now.
