One of the things I tackled in the yard yesterday was the last load of dirt that was delivered for filling in over the septic tank. I got about half way through it before I found a piece of root with suspicious-looking red shoots and, damn, enough leaf to clearly identify it as Japanese knotweed.

If it weren't so late in the season and if it hadn't taken them so long to deliver the dirt I'd try to get them to come back and take this dirt and rocks out of here. As it is, I don't know if it would be worth the hassle even if they did finally remove it because I doubt we would have enough time get the area seeded. May as well even it out and leave it until next spring when we can see how much knotweed sprouts up and hope we can eradicate it before it really takes hold.

I'm heading to the park this morning and planning to do the Vista trail. Maybe I'll just stop and pick up some sushi and have my lunch on the Vista overlook bench.
