Yesterday we picked up Marilyn and had something to eat at Dominick's before going up the hill to The Palace to see "Into the Wild". It was a nice outing on a frigid, starry night. The movie however, wasn't as satisfying as I'd been led to believe. Another case of a book, like "The Perfect Storm", that should never have been made into a movie?

Awhile back when I started my first paperwhites I pulled a photo from the internet for a blog entry. Now mine are finally about to bloom.
I know a lot of people don't care for the fragrance but I came to love it when I was exposed to it years ago at Williamsburg and Winterthur. But then I like the smell of boxwood too so I must have lived a past life in Colonial America.

It doesn't feel at all like Monday, it feels like another Sunday. We woke up to a winter wonderland but the snow's already melting and it's just gonna make the trails more muddy. Phooey.
Meanwhile I've reclaimed the kitchen and got things back to what passes for normal. One thing that's been packed away until next year is the steamed pudding mold:

1/2 cup softened butter
2/3 cup (132g) sugar
1 egg
1 t. vanilla
3/4 t. cinnamon
3/4 cup finely ground dried Calimyrna figs (140g)
1 1/3 cup sifted flour (170g)
3/4 t. baking soda
1/4 t. salt
1/3 cup milk
Mix and steam in a mold for 2 1/2 hours.
Serve warm with lemon sauce and/or hard sauce.
