Fault Lines

Friday, November 2nd 2007

There's just no getting around it; quince is like rhubarb in that you just can't eat it without sugar or honey. Regardless I'm working my way through what will eventually add up to a bushel of quince and this year I have enough to give some to friends. I just hope I'll have the sense to pass up anymore that I might see at the market tomorrow.

We talked to friends in San Francisco last night. They're understandably anxious about Tuesday's earthquake, the strongest since the '89 Loma Priet...

Gridley's Farm

Thursday, November 1st 2007

One thing about being lucky enough to receive the largess of of friends and neighbors who hunt is that I never know when they're going to show up with, say, a beautifully dressed out 10# wild tom turkey. Calm and clear this morning but chilly with a possible freeze forecast for tonight. Time to wrangle my big pot of rosemary back into the house.

I was hoping the Rockies would win their first home game; I always despair to see the season come to an end regardless of the outcome.

By the time I got to the farmers' m...

The Cairns

Saturday, October 27th 2007

I got over to the park for a good hike yesterday morning so I did get in my exercise for the week despite being rained out Monday and Tuesday. Rain again this morning and I'm taking my time getting out to the Farmers' Market.

I was pleased to find the cairns were still intact yesterday and I was finally able to get some pictures.

I couldn't however photograph the biggest treat of the day's hike which was walking through a section of tall woods full of hundreds of robins all o...
