How to plan a week that leads up to beignets and includes Chipotle Mexican Grill, that's my challenge.Next weekend is the Syracuse Jazz Fest and for the past several years one of the vendors has served remarkably good beignets, one of my absolute favorite treats. Saturday we're going over for Toots Theilemans, Mose Allison and, be still my heart, another chance to see the incomparable Dave Brubeck.
I can't find beignets listed anywhere so I'm going to use the info for one glazed donu...

I didn't get to the park yesterday when the repairman called to say he'd be here before I could get back in time. (He didn't find anything wrong and couldn't explain why the freezer is running so much; he took his money and left.)So in the afternoon, with my weight back in what I can call 'familiar territory', I made the first trip of the year on my town bike. Six weeks and I still get on the scale fully expecting to see that I haven't lost any weight. After so many efforts on my own, thinking I was watching my diet & exercising, and then getting on the scale and finding I hadn't lost anything, I just can't quite believe I've really flipped that metabolic switch and I'm losing weight.But today I'm down another 3lbs. and I couldn't make the scale read any higher even when I tried.

It's a great year for local strawberries and so, of course, as the season nears its peak, my freezer begins to behave oddly.Yesterday afternoon, when I opened it, the temp seemed high for the short time I was in there but it was running and so I thought it might be in the defrost cycle. I checked it later and the temp was down but it was still running. 11:30 it was still running, so I turned it off and emptied it into all the various 'styrafoam' coolers I never seem to be able to throw...
