A Wee Celebration

Tuesday, June 5th 2007

A kind of rain dance in reverse.

We got wonderful, soaking rain yesterday and I spent the entire day in the kitchen. I cleaned out the fridge in preparation for the summer bounty of fruits (berries!) and veggies, cleaned the oven, the coffee maker, the toaster, the Brita pitcher; all those little things that I tend to put off way too long. Then I made Marcella Hazan's wonderful rabbit with rosemary and white wine and tossed it with some casareccia.

I just felt the need for something ...

Rain, Lovely Rain

Monday, June 4th 2007

We need more, but I'm grateful for what we've gotten so far in part because now I have an excuse not to go out today and wrestle with the tiller and the 40lb. bags of composted cow manure. Where's The Rain?

Sunday, June 3rd 2007

In the Carolinas maybe? We really need some rain and I could use the excuse to take a break from the work in the yard & garden. I think I've been overdoing it and my feet need some time off.

The house is surrounded by evergreens and this time of year they cut loose with heavy, yellow pollen. It's actually pretty amazing but it means having to wait to put in screens and open windows until well into June if we don't want it everywhere in the house. Last night I left the window over the kitchen sink open a crack and this morning the counter was covered in pollen.

The house is old, plaster and lath construction, so it takes a while to warm up and so far with fairly low humidity i...

A New Hat

Friday, June 1st 2007

I'm amazed how many changes I've made in the past few weeks. I think taking on the CK program has given me a chance to restructure several aspects of my daily routine and now doing things differently has become a goal in itself. I think the more changes I can make now the better the chance that I'll stick with the diet and exercise program.

I used to get out in the cool of the morning and do a lot before the heat of the day but that habit got away from me as I let other things slip. This m...
