We have had an unbelievable string of sunny days and and moonlit nights. And sunsets. We just don't see many colorful sunsets, at least from the house, so when we do have a dramatic evening sky I feel obligated to take a moment to enjoy it.



Yesterday, after an early morning of meetings, errands and a stint at the library, I came home to do something with several pounds of duck and goose, a gift from a friend who hunts water fowl. I made a big pot of sugo d'anatra, a rich Tuscan ragu.

It was another instance of being busy cooking but not really wanting to eat much. I wonder if it has something to do with way some smells, like grapefruit, suppress appetite. I wonder if the pungent fragrance of a half cup of minced fresh rosemary and sage has that kind of effect.

Time to open a fresh batch of fromage blanc so I can leave it to drain while I go to the park and to check the crème fraîche before I move to the fridge. I'll make yogurt tonight and that will be that for awhile.
