The Rosamond Gifford Lecture Series is the largest library-related series in the country. I go primarily to support Friends of the Central Library. I don’t particularly enjoy many of the lectures because I’m not a big fan of contemporary fiction and not all writers are good speakers, far from it, but there have been evenings with writers and poets that I will never forget and now last night will be one of them.

Geraldine Brooks gave the second lecture of this year’s series. Historical fi...

No Telling

Tuesday, November 10th 2009

I was up at 1:00 am this morning and the temperature was 59º/15º. There were mosquitoes out yesterday evening as I was picking up around the yard. It's hard to believe we had snow on the ground four days ago.

I also forgot that the last time I pretty much gave up one of my problem foods, bread.

So this week I’ll do things differently.

For one thing I’m going to forget about the cockamamie Silver whatever-it-is particularly the re...

Bam!

Friday, November 6th 2009

As I was sitting here earlier this morning, a sharp shinned hawk chased what I think was a blue jay, into the nice clean window. It was quite an impact. Put everything else out of my head.

The hawk flew off after a few minutes but I'm still not focusing on much else; it doesn't take a lot to throw me off these days.
