After talking up meditation on several occasions recently I took my own advice and spent a little more time in meditation last week. As it usually does it helped a lot.

What meditation does for me is to help me recognize my emotions for what they are. For the most part I don’t say, “I’m angry” or “I’m afraid” because that would suggest I am an emotion, that my emotions define me. Instead I go to a deeper place that meditation allows me to access. From there I can be mindful that what I’m feeling is an emotion, I can identify and isolate it without denying it and then move beyond it either to let it go if it’s something I can’t do anything about or, if there is something I can do, to focus on seeking a resolution.

Like physical fitness and muscle tone, meditation takes time to develop but the benefits have been even more important to my well-being especially as I’ve gotten older.

Last week was a long one here and it ended Friday morning with surgery for The Mister to remove a spot of basal cell carcinoma from his nose. Because of the location it was a fairly involved surgery requiring a skin graft so we both stayed close to home this weekend. At least we had a perfect excuse to skip a holiday dinner party that would have cost more calories than it was worth.

I saw 146.8 and 146.6 this past week but I posted what I saw this morning, 147.2, because CK drops the decimals and I’d rather look forward to very possibly posting a two pound loss next week. I’m hoping to post 144 before Christmas.
