Sugar

Tuesday, October 27th 2009

One of my chores during my weekly stint at the food co-op yesterday morning was to restock the books and periodicals. One book that's been selling again lately is "Sugar Blues" by William Dufty. (Since most co-op members understand the problems with refined sugar I assume they're giving copies to other folks.)

Seeing the title made me think about how much better I feel since I've reduced my sugar consumption again. I absolutely have a more consistent level of energy and none of th...

Food Inc.

Thursday, October 22nd 2009

If anyone is looking for another reason to think about what they're putting in their mouth – and the mouths of their children – they'll find it in "Food Inc." We saw it last night and even though I've read Eric Schlosser ("Fast Food Nation" ) and Michael Pollan ("The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals" ) the images in the film made their arguments even more compelling.

More than the tragic story of a mother who lost her preschooler to E. coli...
