Friday, Jan 16 2009 - Fruit vs Not Fruit
View MORTINI's food & exercise for this day
Through the service that I order groceries through online, they have a 'suggestions' feature. Last week, one of their fruit suggestions was for a package of Cherries. Which, I bought, because they sounded good. These were just regular cherries, not bing cherries, so they were sweet.
Last night, they sounded good again, so I stopped by the expensive grocery store, and they had them. It was basically $6 for 3/4 lb of them.
Which, made me think. I usually buy grapes, even this time of the year when they're expensive, because I enjoy them, but, there's another reason. I generally eat fruit in the evenings at the end of my meal, so it ends up acting as a dessert. In fact, last Saturday evening, I actually made myself a reasonably healthy dessert to have with dinner (greek yogurt with frozen cherries & some walnuts) and ate my grapes with my dinner and totally forgot about the dessert I made. Which, it's better for me to get the cravings out of the way with fruit and spend more money than get some junk food.
Which, goes for the cherries last night. I could have just as easily had a desire for chocolate, but, my brain stopped at cherries so it was good.
I didn't exercise and just slept last night. Went to bed around 8 last night. And only woke up a few times. Sleep is goooood.

Hm, having fruit at the end of the meal so you don't crave dessert is a great approach! Yes, sleep is oh so good
