today, in amanda-style outline
- ~6:30 AM, get up, eat breakfast. Load up iPod with 'Silence of the Lambs'
- ~7:15 AM, head to park, and start to do c25k week 5, day 1. That's 3 sets of 5 min runs with 3 min walks between them. And try to avoid the bicycle race going on at the same time.
- ~8:30 AM, get back home, sit for 15 minutes, take shower, get dressed, and head to cooking class.
- ~10:00 AM, cooking class begins.
- ~10:45 AM, make first mistake in salad of fail - fail to cut potatoes properly.
- ~11:30 AM, make fail omelet. so it turned into scrambled eggs. oh well.
- ~11:45 AM, make second mistake in salad of fail - forget to take anchovies out of water in time
- ~12:00 PM, make third mistake in salad of fail - leave tomatoes in hot water too long. WAY. Too long. Supposed to just be long enough to get the skin off, but, well, let's just say I had stewed tomatoes.
- ~ 12:30 PM, make fourth mistake in salad of fail - mis-read directions on how they want you to make hard boiled eggs.
- ~ 12:45 PM, decide to re-try the tomatoes, and after coring tomatoes, the hot water on the stove is now gone
- ~ 1:00 PM, assemble salad, and get pretty grossed out that the seared tuna had been left out on the table since 11. But, that's par for the SALAD OF FAIL!
- ~ 1:30 PM, tasting session of the class, tasting the various foods. I only try a few things, a soufflee, and a few other things.
- ~ 2:30 PM, class is over, walk from 23rd street up to 52nd street to see if the weights shop has the adjustable dumbbells I want. They do! Sadly, this morning, my bank informs me that my bank account doesn't have the money I need to purchase said dumbbells, either.
- ~ 3:30 PM, board subway and head to Queens to have dinner with friends.
- ~ 4:10 PM, realize that google maps put me in *totally* the wrong place for where my friends actually live.
- ~ 4:30 PM, backtrack to where they *actually* live.
- ~ 5:00 PM, we decide on this cuban resturaunt classmate recommended, and head to there. my friends are pretty cool about sharing foods, so it makes it fun to go places - try a bit of everything to see how it tastes.
- ~ 6:00 PM, We arrive at resturaunt. As soon as we were seated, they brought us bread that had been squished flat and toasted, cut crosswise and toasted. Was really tasty. Then the amazing food begins to arrive.
For appetizers we had a cuban tamal (Basically like a mexican tamale, a bit sweeter, but with pork mixed in with the masa), Some fried salt cod thing, and chorizo sausages. Along with this really amazing kale soup that also had chorizo in it. And about everything else you can possibly imagine - mine had a chunk of potato, some bread-like stuff, some beans, the kale, everything. But tasted awesome.
For main courses, we ordered braised ox-tail and smoked pork chops. We got 2 sides of beans & rice and plantains. (This was a bush league move, we realized, 1 plate of rice would have been more than enough, as it was about 3 cups of beans & rice on the plate, more than enough for the 3 of us, it would have been better to pick a different side).
Finally, for desert, I had caramel custard, and my friend had some milk thing that was really good, as well.
Best thing about dinner was that it was all of 0 calories, because I sure the heck am not going to worry about counting it.
Seriously, though, between the run and walking for close to 2 hours, and really not eating that much during cooking class, I'm probably not even that much over. I'm going to try to do this with them every other month or so - it gives me something to look forward to, and gorging myself one night every other month isn't that big of a deal. Especially if I attempt to offset it like I did today.
oh yeah, left out the part about coming home to an ANGREH kitteh. she was SO MAD at me. She kept running away from me and glaring at me - something she *never* does. I picked her up and petted her a bit, and I guess that made her happy.
