View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
Thanks to Nadine and Amy I have been getting out and walking on the days when I am not recuperating from all the surgical treatments I am going through. I have built up to over a mile now. I started out only being able to walk for 20 minutes, then 30 and now 40 minutes with a 10 - 15 minute stretch break after a 15 minute warm up walk. I have dine this three days in a row. Yipee. Monday and Tuesday I have more surgery and wed, will have to be a recovery day. I should have doctor appointment through out the next few weeks, so I'm going to try to get in some walks as to not lose this momentum. Then I have the final nerve burn in two weeks. There won't be much recovery time from that.
When I talked to my daughter she said I will now start seeing a difference in weight loss due to exercising if I can keep up the ability to exercise in the 40 minute range. She said the is a big difference between 30 minutes and 40 minutes in how the body responds to exercise. It was something like a 60% difference in the body's ability to burn off fat. Then after 40 minutes it only increases 10% more. So, you need to at least go 40 minutes a day and get your heart rate up to its peak to have a good work out. Now since I am getting close to this it will make since to get a HMR. I will actually be able to see if I can get a higher heart rate going before I have an asthma attack. As my daughter said, I can use the HMR to prevent an asthma attack to by not letting my heart rate get that high. I'm hoping my SI joint complies with all of this new exercising to begin with. I am in pain after a walk, but don't really care. Water jogging is better for my SI joint, but I really don't have access to a deep pool.
The new shoes obviously worked. Without the new shoes I would not be able to walk. Thank you Drew Shoe Company for making extra depth extra wide athletic shoes for woman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I accidentally switched the horses photos I meant to show today. Go back to yesterday to see the horse that is suppose to be on todays blog and vise versa for those who saw yesterdays.
I don't have a good camera. These pics are from my camera phone.
Having a good food day. I'm trying to make a run of good food days. Ever since Marjorie told me it takes so many days to break a habit ( 21? I forget the number), I have been thinking about something. How to motivate myself to stay away from food after that final snack in the evening. I decided to make a weight loss calender and hang it next to my appointment calender. Then take Laura's idea and for every night I don't eat mark the calender with a smile or doggy face. The calender will be looking me in the face if I try to get food either in my pantry or frig at nights. I will put my weight up on Tuesdays which are weigh in days. I needed something to get me motivated and back on the rode to lose these last pounds. I know these will be the hardest. I also will start measuring now. I haven't up to this point. My daughter says now is the time since my exercising is reaching the point I might be building muscle mass now.
Have a nice night all.

hi--
the carb count on the chickpea cutlets is 32 g. cholent is a thick (traditionally Jewish) beef stew with beans, lentils, and potatoes. we make ours with TVP (textured vegetable protein) instead of beef. carb count is higher in the cholent, at 59 g- i don't know if that's good or not. the full nutritional info for both dishes is available if you just look at my food diary (click on the "see neimanmarxist's food & exercise for this day" link on my blog.) we're having chickpea cutlets for dinner tonight and we had cholent yesterday so all the info is right there under the "dinner" slot. let me know if there's anything else you need!

Sounds like you're doing great with exercise. Walking will be so good for you - emotionally and spiritually and physically. I like your plan of picking one thing to focus on (eating after your last planned snack) and then tracking your progress on that one goal. I feel like you're going to have a great week, Lory! I hope my feeling is right

I love the calendar idea! It's good to be able to have a visible reminder of how well you're doing. I'm so happy to hear the shoes are working for you. I wish you didn't get so much pain from exercising though. I know how hard it is to motivate myself to exercise and exercise makes me feel good! Your before and after pictures are so impressive. (21 days is right. Supposedly that's how long it takes to get your mind and body readjusted to a new habit.)

Yeah, for muscles!! I think 40 minutes makes a difference too. I am considering getting a HRM but I would like to use it for a reward, so if I just lose a few more pounds...............................
