Thursday, Apr 24 2008 - chapter 2 of the beck diet solution
View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
Chapter 2 of the Beck Diet Solution deals with how our thoughts can sabotage our diets. The book then deals with how we can change our thoughts to work for us and not against us. I am a pro at sabotaging my own diet and therefor look forward to reading the next chapters. Already, I have used one such suggestion of changing the way I talk to myself to make a change in how I handle a temptation I face every night. It is the battle of the marshmallows. I have mentioned this before in my blog. These tiny little creators that Xena gets her medications in every night drive me crazy. I love them and so often I can't keep my little paws from eating not just one, but a handful of them. A handful can become a 100 calories easily. Tonight, I wrote on the container, " I will not eat you. The moment of pleasure I get from you is not worth ruin my diet and the success of losing weight and feeling good about myself . I like it when people talk about my weight loss more than when I eat you. So, I will not eat you. " I appealed to what really makes me feel good about myself and how you all help motivate me too! Tonight I did not eat one marshmallow.
Just as much as we can sabotage our diets with our thoughts, we can resist temptation with our thoughts. This is what stood out to me the most in chapter two. There is much more in this chapter, but I won't ruin it for you. I also got the workbook. It covers the same material, but goes about it in a different way. It's kind of like a math book and a math workbook. Both cover the same material, but they compliment each other. I figure if I do both I will actually learn the material since repetition is how I learn.
Today will be the first day in months that I am not going to put down what I ate on my food journal. I still measured everything and know in my head what I ate. I just decided to once a month take a vacation from typing in what I do and spend the time with my hubby watching a movie. I needed the rest tonight. I feel pretty good. It is about all I could do tonight to catch up on some blogs and blog tonight. I used to think those green checks from CK where everything. Now I'm going to relax a little, but not in measuring my food.
I did have a good exercise day. I got in a good 35 min. treadmill walk. I learned I can do a mile in 30 min. at 2.1 speed. The doctor told me to keep it a flat incline because if my SI joint and back. So, in order to get more calories burned I will have to eventually go faster or longer someday. I guess that is what I will aim for. I burned around 120 calories which is the most I ever have. This is good because today I had a little low blood sugar and had to take an extra 80 calories in.
Well, have a nice time. Greys was a pretty good ep. tonight. Off to watch "Lost " now.

Hoooray for you Lory. First of all, I need to use the marshmallow thing with my dogs. That is brilliant! 2nd of all, I love you writing on your marshmallows the reminder & I love what you wrote. Yippee for you getting that walk in --- you're doing so awesome. You're a force to be reckoned with!

I think not logging once in awhile is a good idea, you learn to manage your eating without the "crutch" of something outside yourself. We need to use all the tools we can but we also need to be able to function on our own because sometimes life gets in the way and we shouldn't panic about not being able to log every bite. Good job on the exercise and marshies. I enjoyed Greys too, glad it is back.

What a great idea to write a message to the marshmallows on the container! You are so diligent in your daily weighing, measuring and journaling that I think you can take a day off journaling without any guilt.
