Sunday, May 18 2008 - having to change pump setting every 15-20 pounds

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

Good evening to everyone. Nope no grandchildren, but I do have a grand dog and I had to dog sit him this weekend as my daughter and FSIL worked at a wedding this weekend. Jax is like a hyper active child, he is never still and always getting into something if you don't have something for him to do. So, I took him on plenty of walks around the neighborhood, had new toys for him, and made sure he and Xena stayed apart.:bigeyes3:
Last week food wise was an up and down week since I had blood sugar troubles. I looked at all my numbers for the past two weeks and readjusted my basal and ratios like the doctor told me I could. Then I documented everything I did and will see what happens over the next three days. If things go well, I won't have to eat extra food and can get back on coarse. What usually happens when I start getting lows is that I will eat too much.:$once I start eating to make up for a low. I know to stop, but sometimes I get into that I got to eat this then that after a low to keep my blood sugar stable. Then before I know it, I have eating a meal and not a snack. If I don't play it just right, I can even get another low several hours latter or go too high latter and have to do the routine all over again. I also figured out that this is going to happen to me every 15-20 pounds that I lose from now on and might even start 10-15 pounds as I get closer to my goal weight. I don't know too many diabetics on the pump to ask them how often they had to change their pump settings, but this is what is happening to me. I also was told in pump class that it would be unusual if my settings would change greater than 10% at any time. So, I am trying a 5% change and will go to a 10% change if that is not enough to get my BG up. My doctor had already told me once my blood sugars consistently hit the 80's, it was time to change my basal or ratio numbers.
All of this is too say, it's been a tiring diet week for this girl. You all who have been with me for a long time, have been through this with me before. I am now learning to make changes quicker now and to hopefully get through these stages without interfering with my diet too much now. Yippee if I pull this off and only lose a week due to low BG problems and not the three I did last time.
I resisted all the goodies being handed out today at church. Why is it at our churches everyone has to eat sweets? Do they ever pass out carrot sticks? At least they offered Diet Coke, but were out of water bottles, the one time I wanted water!
Watched my daughter's dog this weekend.:bigeyes3:I swear some dogs are like hyper active children. I kept the dog busy though.
See ya around.

Hi Lory,
I have a hyper dog too. Her name is Matilda and she is a sweetie pie but very HYPER. I keep her outdoors because she gets on my nerves so much. Anyway, sorry you're having pump problems but it sounds like you know what to do. Also cute pic. You look good in orange. Thanks or your comments on my blog. An atta boy from you means something. Best wishes, Cheryl51

Sounds like you had your hands full this weekend with your "granddog." Hope you get the pump thing figured out. I bet it's very satisfying (even if it's annoying) to be able to lower the settings. My soup recipe called for 1 cup of bulgar. I barely taste it in the soup but it seems to make it heartier. I used fresh oregano, basil and thyme from my garden. :smile1:

Great job on jumping in and making some changes when you needed to! I have a grandpuppy and no grandchildren too! on passing on the sweets at church. The ladies here have started doing more fruit trays and crackers and cheese in addition to the sweets but usually it disappears so fast the ladies that are working the event don't get any (usually me).:(
