View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
Yesterday I went my endocrinologist and he was very pleased with my weight loss progress. My blood work showed that I will have to increase my cholesterol med back up which means I probably have a genetic disposition toward high cholesterol to begin with. That's all right, I have proven that diet does indeed knock down your cholesterol a great deal as well and that it takes both to get down to normal. He want me to try an wean off insulin now by taking a diabetic pill and lowering my insulin intake. The first pill he mentioned, Amalace (sp?) he mentioned could cause weight gain ! I said I would absolutely NOT take that drug. He mentioned that, that was probably not true of the drug. I said I don't care. If the drug maker listed weight gain as a side effect then it probably was a side effect and I just spent a year and a half losing weight. I was not about to have a pill put me back in the same situation ! So, he decides to try me on a pill called Januvia. I said ok to that one. I would rather be on insulin the rest of my life than on any drug that would keep me from my weight goal. Which by the way, we had a BIG disagreement on what that will be.He wants me to stop at 149. I said no way. I will settle for no less than 135. He asked why 135. I said that's my BMI number for my age and height. Then he asked what is a BMI ! I was very fluster that my doctor was even having this conversation with me. My pain management doctor and GP want me to get down to a normal weight. So, I don't see why he thinks I can't maintain a normal weight. Even my brother thinks I should stop at 150 because he thinks it will be hard to maintain a lower weight. This ssoooo discouraged me that a professional medical doctor would have this opinion. I know there is realism, but there is also the fact that at 149 I would still be over weight. It seems his only goal is to get my numbers down and get me off insulin. I have some more goals to accomplish. I will not have done that by reaching 149. I must hit that 135 to do that. Ck has my weight range between 110-128, and that is pretty. I have my goal weight at 120 which is very low. I may raise it up now, but to what I don't know. I was really going to let my body tell me where to end after I reach the 135 BMI number. I want to reach that number to get into a lower heart risk number. That is my last medical goal. I also want to see my feet when I look down. OK, now since I have thought about it I will put my goal at 135 and go from there. The other doctor appointment was necessary since it's that time for certain exam to be set up for my rear end.

Colon cancer runs in the family. I hate these exams, but what I hate mote is that prep drink they make you drink the night before.

Short blog today, gotta go to the gym now. Can't exercise outside anymore. It's too hot to take long walks now. Xena gets shorts walks now since the heat is at killer temps now. I do get better walks on the treadmill though. I did my first incline walk yesterday. I did have some nerve irritation when I tried to go too high, but I was able to manage a 1.5 steep incline at 2.2 speed. Hope that means I will eventually be able to do incline walking.
I will visit people's blog's tonight after hubby goes to bed. I like to spend the early evening with him before he goes off to bed. He gets up real early and thus goes to bed early...so, I like to make sure I get my time with him. I Allow computer an Tv time for late evening after all my chores are done. That's why I have had to cut back. I've been prioritizing and putting exercising and studying ahead of blogging. I'm trying to keep up as much as possible. So, every spare moment I come into the computer room and read someones blog. I will get to everyone through out the week. I'm going to see how my new schedule works out. So, talk to you all tonight. time permitting.

Hi Lory, thank you for advice on my blog today, I reall.y appreciate it. I love that you understand and you know how hard this is. I feel so ashamed sometimes because so many think this should be easy. This weekend will be a cvhallenge but I am eager to see what I am made of!

You will know the right weight for you when you get there. Mine is higher than the standards, but my doc agrees that it is right for me.

What a great feeling that had to have been from your doctor!! Lory, you are doing sensational and you keep me going!I do think 120 is too low for you, 135 is much better. I strongly suggest to go for that exam, it is sooo worth it!!

Lory, I love how you were firm with your doctor. You have come so far in your weight loss journey & your know your body. I agree with you..I would not want to take a pill if the side effects could cause weight gain. Good for you & speaking your opinion! I hear ya with being unable to exercise outside. It's really humid & hot here (I think we skipped spring). We went from cold weather straight to hot. Great job with your incline walking. Just increase slowly and listen to your body. Have a great night!

I've heard that MDs get a very minimal amount of education about nutrition in medical school so it's not surprising to me when I know more about it than a doctor. Your brother and your doctor just don't know what you're capable of!

Hi Lory: Great post for today! It can be so frustrating when the authorities - the persons we entrust our care to - are less aware about the big health picture than we are. Like you, CK says my ideal weight is lower than I think I can go. Like you, I've set what I believe is a healthy goal weight (132), but I want to be responsive to my body as it changes. Keep in dialogue with your body - between your experience, your activity, your diet, and your medical care, I believe you'll get to the right place for you. Thanks for setting such a good example.
