Yesterday I finally stayed within my calories ! Yahoo! And I wasn't even hungry at through out the day. It's been a while since I have had the feeling of success. Now if I can put a few days like yesterday behind me I will be back on the road toward weight loss again.
My reward jar is motivating me to stay within my calorie range. I really want to put that dollar in that jar every morning when I get up. I also want that eight pounds off by August. Ugh, have you ever wanted something so bad !
My FSIL is coming over to teach me how to use my camera at the end of the week. He's going to show me how to download the pictures and to basic stuff. In the meantime, I'm going to try and read the manual and understand what I can. I know basic stuff from years past using my Dad's camera. It's been a while since I've done photography. I think the basics of shooting are the same whether it's film or digital.
Hubby goes in tomorrow for a colon test tomorrow. Gee, he's going to have fun tonight.=D My turn latter on this month. It's not like this is our first ones, we've had these test before so we know what to expect. The question in my household came was how often do you get them. My doctor makes me get them every two years because of my family history, and I have several risk factors. My hubby has no risk factors except diet and weight which he is slowly taking care of as I am. Neither of us smoke and he drinks beer. So, he asked his doctor how often he should get one. There seemed to be the debate. Some doctors say every ten years others say every five years others every two years after 50 if you have no risk problems. I say ten years is WAY too long because cancer like that can pop up within a ten year period. It would seem every two years be more the best if you wanted to catch something at it's early stages. I have a sneaking suspension that insurance companies wouldn't want to pay for procedures like this every two years though and people without insurance couldn't afford it. Anyway, I believe this is where our health care system fails us. We have the means to detect cancer early, but for a lot of people this test is unavailable to them for many reasons. When I think about it, I cry. If my Dad had had this test he would have had a chance. So, when I take this test, I am grateful that I have the means and the insurance to pay for it. I hope that many of you are able to get one of these exams when it is your turn for it could save your life some.

I'm adding to my blog from this morning. I just got back from visiting with my hair dresser. I was in the same shopping center doing some shopping so I stopped by. I had talked to my daughter about what she wanted me to do with my hair for the wedding.:cross3:I agreed to color it.:cry2: So, when I dropped by and talked to Barbra she showed me my options. Boy, I feel better after talking to her. She suggested I just color the front of my hair enough to cover the grey and not the whole head. She can match the color and therefor I won't have to worry about a lot of dark roots when the hair stats to grow back out since I don't plan on on keeping this up. I'm doing this for my daughter and "her photos." I just never ave cared much for things like this, so I hope she appreciates it.
Also while I was there, Barbra told me she got the Beck book that I told her about. She is reading it and it has helped her lose 12 pounds so far. She wanted to know if I was interested in getting a book group together to discuss the group and talk about diets in general. I said that was a neat idea and mentioned starting a support group based on the Beck book or just one in general with her friends. We will see what becomes of this.

Good idea with the reward jar. I will keep it in mind if I have more trouble. You are a good Mom to color your hair for your daughter!

Most insurances pay for an endocolonoscopy procedure because it is preventative and highly sucessful. I have assisted with many of these procedures too. Endo is not my favorite place to be but it is a very important procedure. I have helped with removing polyps and other tissue for biopsy and other things. The neatest thing is when a surgeon sees a tumor or necrotic bowel, they will tatoo the colon. It is a pretty cool process because it is done through a scope. When that patient goes to the OR to have a bowel resection, we can see the tatoo, so the Dr. knows exactly where the cancer is. I tell everyone to get one at 50 and every two years after. Some people are at a higher risk because it ran in thier family. These people definitely need to go every two years. This is where insurance companies get funny about paying. Most want you to wait every five years. If you have a history in your imediate family, they will usually pay, depends who the carrier is.

I am not sure why you would not be a candidate for disc replacement? Maybe because of your other health issues. My neuro surgeon,(who I work with a lot too), told me I am a good candidate. I have some disc material between my three, he did not remove all of it due to my age. He did not fuse me because of my age too. The implant that I am talking about is a titanium alloy and it swivels, for ease of movement. it is only available for L5-S1 right now. There is research for the other levels but not ready yet. There are other implants that are of other materials but I like the swivel thing. I am waiting until they can do others so I only have to have one more surgery. We also use cadaver bone to implant before we do a ACDF, which is a fusion. Usually bone is only added when we are fusing something. My back felt great the day after my jog. The only thing that hurt was my ankle, the muscles seized on me.I did take off last night though. I will go back today and see what I feel like doing. It will most likely be the elliptical. I will look into the Beck book, it sounds interesting.

Good job :thumbu2: sticking to calories! I've had to restart my "No Nibbling at Night" count a few times myself. That's cool that your hair dresser has had such good luck with the Beck book. What a great idea to start a group. My mom had colon cancer so the doctors suggested me & my sisters have our first colonoscopy at 40. I'm not looking forward to it! :afraid2:

I like your idea of the reward jar. I just had the colonoscopy experience 6 months ago. Oh, boy. The insurance stuck me with a $400 anesthesiologist bill because the doctor does them in-office. I fought it but had to pay. I am just grateful that everything was okay. It is very sad that people cannot afford these tests. Your blogs are inspiring. You're doing a great job.

Great job staying within your calorie range. I know what you mean about wanting something so badly. I have all the faith in the world that you can do this. Look at how far you've come. I'm sure your hubby is not too excited about tomorrow, but it's the best thing he can do for his health. We are fortunate to live in a time when things can be detected early. A book group sounds like fun! Have a great evening & thank you again for all of the information you gave me. I'm forever grateful.

Glad to hear you're tackling your digital camera challenges. It's well worth any time you may have to expend to learn how to use it. I really enjoyed using mine in New Orleans ;). Also, congrats about staying w/in your calories. I can't tell you how having people here who are actually practicing the program inspire me. Maybe one day I can be an inspiration too...
