Wednesday, Jun 11 2008 - I Feel Better About Myself Even Though...

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

I feel better about myself even though I have not lost any weight in a MONTH. Yep, I lost not one pound this week. So, told hubby no going out and absolutely no pizza dinners. Still, I feel good about what has occurred in my life this month. I learned I can exercise on a slight incline, walk a car show without my scooter, and survive going out of town without gaining weight. Now, I will have to re-conquer the nibbles when I'm cooking meals. You know, those tiny little bites you put into your mouth of food that you taste while you are cooking! This all adds up. Then there is those Xena marshmallows that tempt me every night. Maybe I can get Hubby to give the dog her medicines so I won't be tempted to eat those marshies. Like so many of you eating after all the calories are gone and the kitchen is closed is always my weakness an eternal test. I have a continual prayer for help in this area.
Right now before i say that I have hit a plateau, I am going to say that I have just eaten more calories than what it takes to lose. This little body has such a fine line between what it takes to lose and maintenance calories, that it doesn't take much to ruin the balance or to get off. So, before I start fretting, I'm going to try real hard the next two weeks to get back on track before I think about the " P " word. Also, I'm going to give up on that goal I set for myself for my daughter's wedding. I do lousy when I set TIME goals for myself concerning weight. I seem to lose less when I try them. So I now throw that out the door. I am comfortable going into the weeding where I am now or where ever I land from here. My daughter said she was proud of me yesterday for what I accomplished as she saw I didn't eat the whole sub sandwich. I told her I couldn't eat the whole one and stay on my calorie count for the day even though I wanted to because I was mad at the clerk. She smiled because she knew this was a new me. :P Then she said, " Yea, but doesn't it feel good knowing that you're not eating those extra calories!" I then felt better and not so angry at the sub sandwich clerk who was making my sub then stopped while she was in the middle of making mine and started working on someone else. Now wouldn't that make you mad if you were hungry. She thought the guy in front of her would finish my sub, but he started making another sub and I was left standing there with a half made sub.:angry2: Any way, I will get this weight off. I will not let all these detours make me feel bad.
This weight will come off. On our way to the colonoscopy, my hubby said to me when I mumbled about being on a diet for the rest of my life, He said," We feel better so look at the rewards for the long term, and not being on a diet long term." In other words if you look at how you are feeling and the results of your actions and focus on them, the how you are getting there doesn't seem painful but becomes no problem any more. The feeling of feeling better is such a reward you will no longer look at that diet as a stressful situation in your life or something that tires you. You actually look forward to your new eating style because it makes you FEEL better and look better. Now, I can live with that for a life time. How about you. Now this diet is something that isn't going to get me down. It's a marathon and not a sprint for sure. It's a life time and not a twinkle in time. It's a shared experience with all of us, so let's look forward to it and not dread it.
As I speak these words to you, I was able to share with a lady in the waiting room words of encouragement about her diet.=D She had heart surgery a few years back and needed to lose some. Her hubby had joined WW and had lost 22 pounds. She knew it was her turn to join him, but she knew she didn't have the emotional stamina to diet. Boy, have I got a book for you to read. I guess you know what I shared with her. We talked about my fav book for a while and then her dogs. She turned out to be a dog breeder of King Charles Spaniels. I love those dogs. Man, she gets $2000-2500 a puppy! Anyway, I got her card and will give her a call some day. May even go visit to see her dogs. She goes to the Houston show every year too. Last year my hubby and I watched the King Charles dogs at the ring because he likes them so much. It's a small world. Oh, her hubby did fine on his test. Mine, he's fine too. He needs to eat more fiber and had some polyps removed. Don't see a problem though. It was good we got the test done ahead of schedule though.
Have a good day.

At your weight eating healthy like you do, and exercise, even if it is not much, is more benefit to your health than losing the rest of the weight. You are doing so well!

Hey, you just learned maintenance! You are going to need to know how to do that for a long time and you got it figured out.

I have no doubt that you will make it to your goal weight, Lory because your head is in the right place. We all feel a little down sometimes but you pick yourself right back up. You know that this is about eating less and moving more so that you can enjoy the rest of your life--it's not about depriving yourself and feeling angry that you can't eat everything. You are a great inspiration to all of us!

Yay for good test results! Good for you for taking the pressure off about "when" you lose the weight, as long as you DO it doesn't matter. And you need to change your way of thinking -- the way you're eating now is not a diet - as in a restrictive can't eat certain things forever diet, it is a lifestyle - consisting of healthy choices and monitored calories!! If you don't feel deprived, you are less likely to "cheat" or "nibble"

Hi Lory! I'm so glad to hear that your hubby did well today. My body also has a fine line between what it takes to lose and maintain. I know of your frustrations with it, believe me. I think you have a good plan with your hubby giving the dog the meds. I know with me I have to get out of the kitchen right after dinner. In fact, our sunroom is right off of the kitchen. Our sunroom is set up like a living room, so hubby likes to watch tv in there after dinner. I cannot do this. I have to go upstairs otherwise I'll continue to nibble. One thing that I've tried while cooking is chewing sugar free gum. I used to nibble a lot (especially when I'm starving & cooking). Now if I'm chewing gum I won't taste anything while I'm preparing our meals. You're doing an amazing job, don't worry the weight will come off.
