View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

Today at the gym I noticed that I managed to get to the mile on the treadmill faster than I have ever before. What used to take me over 30 minutes, now takes me 26 minutes. I started out in December only able to walk 15 minutes at 1.0 miles per hour and now I am going 2.4-2.5 miles per hour for 30-40 minutes. Wow! Now, my tusshie is a little sore after each walk, but I hope that will get better as time goes by. The remarkable thing that surprises me the most is that my asthma has not bothered me at all while I've been walking. Granted, if I were to go faster it would. I wish there would be no pain involved afterwards and that I could keep on walking beyond my 30 minutes, but I have been warned not to over do it. Today I was very tempted to keep walking just to see what would happen if I did. I resisted and stopped at the 30 minute mark. Hopefully tomorrow I will make it to the gym. Tomorrow is pool day.
I met with a lady after work out today and tried to encourage her with her diet since she was really bummed out with life in general. Dee has been on her diet for three years now and is getting diet fatigued. She just wants to be able to eat a giant hamburger with onion rings with blue cheese.:cross3: I feel for her. Been there and know the feeling. Nothing I could say could console her, she was just plain worn out from her cancer battle and diet. Her cancer is in remission thank goodness, but she needs heart surgery some where down the line. When I think of a person like this and the fact that I have been placed in the position to help someone who is having a weak moment, I am thankful I know all of you. I gather the wisdom I have learned from all of you and share what you all have taught me humbled that I am the one who is allowed to share with such a person as Dee. I know it is not my wisdom that I am sharing but yours. Thank all of you for teaching me and allowing me to share with others your wisdom. Through you I have been helped. Through you, you are helping others. This is the beauty of CK.
My day was not finished as I went to the grocery store and there was a lady trying to make up her mind about what kind of fat to by for her diabetic husband. She wanted to cook him something sweet and was looking at a certain brand of margarine/butter blend she thought would be good for him. I pointed to the good old Fleshman's unsalted margarine that had no cholesterol and less fat for the same calories. This is important to diabetics if you don't mind the taste difference. She then proceeded to tell me how her husband wanted to give up on life since finding out he has become a diabetic... well, I helped her out and will be sending her my fruit freezys recipes as well for hid sweet tooths. Again, I recognized this symptom in myself when i was first diagnosed so it was easy to share words of encouragement to her. You all are teaching me how to be an encourager even tough it is not in my nature to be one. Again, this is something I am learning here at CK. To be a listener an an encourager. Life has a way of giving and receiving. I have learned all that here. Thank each and everyone of you.
Now, thanks to Kristen for the gum idea, it worked. Did not nibble while making dinner tonight.;)
Will catch up on everyone's blog tomorrow as it is getting too late to do so tonight. Have a goodnight and a great tomorrow.:wink3:

How cool to be able to see such gains in your physical strength--you've more than doubled your speed! I understand Dee's frustration and weariness with dieting. I prayed and prayed to be able to move beyond that feeling of resentment and anger to move towards acceptance and gratitude. That made all the difference in the world for me. I'll hold that thought for Dee as well.

Lory, you have such a great way with words. What I find so ironic, is how you describe yourself is the exact opposite of how I picture you. From my first week, you have struck me as someone who was born to motivate and encourage others. You pick-up on all the little details/clues and are able to clearly see the whole picture. You reach out to everyone and best of all, you are completely honest. You don't minch your words and we all need that at some point. I always say, if you don't like your reality, change your perspective. Attitdue is everything and your made of the right stuff. Congrats on the walking improvement - that's a step in the right direction - ha. Have a magical day!

You are an excellent role model! It is nice you are willing to share your your experience with others. I think the lady should eat her burger too, you can't be a long term thin person until you learn to fit those kind of foods into your diet occasionally.

That's so awesome Lory and such a testament to your stick-to-it-iveness! Good for you for sharing the wealth. Tell your friend to have that burger & onion rings. A healthy diet isn't about deprivation its about moderation, right?!
