Thursday, Aug 21 2008 - Biting the extra eating
View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
I have one bad habit that keeps biting me in the butt. It's that night time eating after all my calories are used up. Sometimes I di it because I am still hungry and other times I do it because I am just plain indulging myself. I never go over but a few hundred calories now, but just enough to ruin a good eating day. I say, I have been doing this 3 days a week now lately. I had broken this habit I thought for good, but somehow during my travels I started it all over again. I found that for some reason traveling gives me the munchies which brings back that old habit again, and it is hard to stop once it starts up again. I am trying all of my old techniques to stop this habit. Chewing gum, drinking hot tea, going to bed earlier, reading instead of watching TV, even staying off the computer. I would take an evening stroll, but it is in the middle of the summer here which means it's way too hot to walk outside in the evening here. I will have to defeat my enemy again, and i suppose this will not be the last time I will face this demom from my past. This is part of my life cycle now. I am hoping that as I go into battle this time it will be easier to defeat this enemy and I will get stronger each time I face it.I am hoping that eventually each time I face down this enemy, I will get to the point I will break down this habit for good. Wishful thinking I know, or positive thinking ? In any case, I am not going to let this battle make me give up my battle of humanness. I recognize this is a problem for not only me but many others. I have man still managed to lose a lot of weight while dealing with my problem. As I said, It comes and goes. Some days and weeks are better than others. If you have this problem, don't let it defeat your diet dreams, just keep working at it. Here are some more things I am going to try to help me tonight not eat past my bedtime snack.
1) plan a bedtime snack that will sustain me through out the night and eat it at 8 pm
2) drink one glass of water to go with it
3) make sure the kitchen is cleaned up and the lights are out. I hate dirtying up the sink once I get it cleaned up for the night. Maybe I can use this to my advantage.
4) go into the other TV room away from the kitchen area, keep out of the big K room. Give dog her medicine early in the evening so I won't have to go into the K room later on in the evening.
That's my game plan for the night.
Now for a laugher concerning my hubby. A year ago I was watching this infomercial and bought this tool. when my husband asked me what this charge was he got upset with me. It was a fairly expensive tool considering, but not so when you consider it could do the job of about seven power tools. It could also do jobs that no other power tool we had could do. We needed a tool like this since we were putting in our own floors and my hubby is constantly doing repair jobs around the house. He could use this saw over all the jig saws better than what he had, He would just love this tool and I knew it. I tried to explain to him all that this tool could do. He grumbled at the price and called and canceled it. Well, today I came into the kitchen and caught him watching this info commercial and writing down the number. When I saw the tool it was advertising I just started to laugh and told him that was the tool I had ordered last year that he made me cancel. He gave me his crooked smile and had to admit I wasn't crazy after all and that I wasn't wrong for ordering it.It was something we could have used and he would like. HAHAHAHAHAH The woman gets revenge after all. See, I wasn't crazy in ordering it for him, and I got an apology oout of him too !

Thanks for your comments on my blog. I think that is very true and very perceptive of you to be able to see the emotional changes and issues you've dealt with losing weight. It is a journey. You have a lot of good insights!

Yay! The woman was right after all! Sometimes men don't have the foresight that we do, dare I say? I like your plans to avoid night eating. You are right. This whole eating thing can be like a war witihin ourselves. We each have to come to our own terms with what, where, and how we eat. The thing is to keep committed to change. Your success is admirable.

Hi Lory!
Thank you for your comments, as usual they were very helpful. I know too well about the demons. I have many different ones myself and some of my demons are pretty ugly and strong. It is like going to battle as you said in your blog. There are times when you are on top of everything and other times you feel like you have been squashed and will never be able to rise again to victory. Well, victory is ours because everyday we do something that was positive to our health. Every little thing we do brings us one step closer to our goals. I think your plans to stay out of the K room at night is a great idea. Have a great day today Lory!

That's so cool that your daughter and SIL are triathletes!
=D Something else I do to stop the late night munchies: DIY manicure (can't touch food with wet nails!) and face mask (can't eat with mud on your face!)

A big man to apologize. To admit he remembered.
 I have the same bad habit of eating at night. Right now the demon is down and I plan on keeping it down.
 Instead of struggling with the yes and no in my head about whether to eat or not eat, I just decided there would be NO night time eating. And that was the end of it. My body protested for a while with the "hungries" but it stopped after awhile. I think part of the issue is that we become physically accustomed to eating at a certain time and want to repeat it.
:bang: Sometimes you're the bug, and sometimes you're the windshield.
:cool6: Today I'm the windshield.
:cool6: Oh, BTW, I thought I emailed you that I did get the pictures, and thank you.

Definitely positive thinking...not wishful thinking! I was going to tell you to plan your snack in (and you're doing that!) Cleaning the sicnk and brushing your teeth also help! I love the story about the tool. As for me NROLFW is New Rules of Lifting for Women...it is a 6 month weight lifting program that also includes a diet (that I am not following) -- I am just looking for some structure between now and boot camp to make sure that I don't lose my stamina/focus!!
