Thursday, Sep 4 2008 - diet blahs
View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
Ok, I had the diet blahs as well as a bad cold. I decided to call my dietitian and set an appointment today to go over some things I need to check up on in order to get over this slump I feel I am in. When ever I go to her not only do I get some extra knowledge that I need, but I usually get that extra ump from her to push myself. I feel I need some questions answered as well as her ump. I just can't really explain why I have the blahs, but I do.
I worked out lightly after taking it easy for ten days due to a chest cold yesterday. I got on the exercise bike to see if I could do it without my SI joint hurting. To my surprise I could do the bike without my joint moving from side to side. I still have nerve pain in the joint, but it didn't hurt while on the bike, but my hamstrings burned. Wow, I didn't expect that. I also noticed that the bike ate more calories up a lot quicker. So, I will do ten minutes on the bike for a warm up, stretch, then the treadmill, then my strength exercise every other day by cutting back on treadmill time. I now have seven machines I can do at the gym plus my core exercise at home. There is more than enough to chose from to do through out the week now. I can now exercise daily with some kind of exercise even if I don't make it to the gym. This is my goal. Again you all have here have been the reason I have gotten this far. Thank you.
Some of you talked about the fat in ground turkey and chicken in my last blog notes. ( Bun) Well, I too, noticed that too after Denise pointed that out to me a few months ago. I now go to Whole Foods and either have them grind chicken breast without skin for me or do it myself on my Kitchen Aid mixer. WF also has great ground Turkey with no skin. You are right Bun, some of the meat from the regular stores do have skin in them and thus the very lean ground beef has the same amount of fat in it. I am going to ask my dietitian if there is a difference then between the lean ground beef and extra lean turkey at that point in our cholesterol and see what she says. Let you know what the answer is.
Hurricane Gustav didn't effect us at all, but Ike has the potential of effecting Florida as well as the Gulf coast. Everyone here is watching him. I know Nadine and all of the Ck family in Florida will be keeping their eyes open too.
Noe to go blog my daily food which I have been so bad about...Yes I have been a bad girl and I know better. I even picked up two pounds this past month. So, back to the old grind....

I wonder if my meat department would grind some turkey for me? What a good idea you had!! Glad you are working on getting over your blahs, I have been feeling overwhelmed so of course I try to ignore my eating goals. I am hanging in there but I need to get myself focused again, and soon! Glad you weren't effected by Gustav. Don't be hard on your self, OK?

Sorry to hear you weren't feeling well, -- glad you're better. Good idea to have them grind your chicken for you!
:y: My SIL has been going to Whole Foods to get his meats, especially. That's where he goes for our nice fliet mignon that he makes sometimes for Friday night dinners. It's good you have so many different machines to go on. I have a bike at the "Y" that I
 - it changes difficulty with the hills and it has a shift, like a bike, so you can work at whatever level, and you have to steer the handlebars - with a road in front of you. There's one game on there - slaying dragons, that I play at the end of my 30 minute or so workout that goes by very quickly. You have to listen to your body as far as when to rest, but I have found the hardest part of exercising for me is getting there, so I use the same technique that she says for food - "no choice". When I worked, Lory, I would be trying to talk myself out of it just seconds before I had to turn into the gym parking lot. I always thought of how bad I would feel about not going once I got home, and how energized I would be if I did. It took a while before it was a good habit. There were even people at work that would try to convince me how sorry I should feel for myself after working 10 hours and not have to go to the gym, if I was foolish enough to mention where I was going.
:nono5: I've been struggling with the whole thinking area of dieting - sabotaging my efforts. I keep chipping away at this monster!

I hope you are feeling much better now. Sorry you've been sick. Time to jump right on those two pounds and kick them out! You don't want them to become three or four, eh? Hopefully your dietitian can help get you fired up again. I've heard that the treadmill burns more than a bike -- maybe it's the standing up rather than sitting uses more body muscles?

Yep, we are certainly watching Ike! To answer your questions, I burn much less calories on a bike than on a treadmill. I wish I had a Whole Foods around here! Now that you've taken your little break, get back in the saddle girl!!!
