Thursday, Sep 11 2008 - Preparing emotional for being housebound
View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
Talk about emotional eating, this weekend should be a great test for me and my husband as we will be in a house with the rain and wing going around us like we have not experienced before and a dog who freaks out under " normal thunderstorms." Thankfully, I went to vet to get something for the dog's problems, but for my own anxieties, I have none. This is were for many food would be a great temptation. As I scanned the grocery lines I certainly saw just that. Granted, a lost of non perishables aren't the most healthy of products with all the preservatives in them, but even I was able to find some healthy alternatives. I have to admit in years past those white covered doughnuts I saw in that one lady's cart certainly looked tempting, but she had three large boxes of them. I hope her family is large. Then there was the one lady who had eight bottles of wine. I know her nerves will be fine during the storm.

I will admit to getting a few treats which might cause me a few problems, but I made sure I didn't get a great quantity of them so I couldn't pig out on them. One was some roasted corn kernels at 140 cal for 1/4 cup, they taste like popcorn and a hand full satisfies that urge to crunch on something. Then I got some dried cranberries. Yum, I like these better than raisins. My old standby of red peppers and hummus because I love veggies, and my 60 calorie pita bread I found at Walmart to put it these in. Double yum afternoon snack if my hubby doesn't eat up all the hummus with our other favorite snack, baby carrots. No joke, we bought 4 bags of these to get us through the weekend. My hubby traded in his chips for carrots and fat free ranch. Well, those are my rained in junk food treats. I will have to watch myself not to overeat because I can still over eat on healthy foods.
If I have time I will come back and write some more on my blog, but I have some more stuff to go get done before the big storm. By this evening I expect to start seeing some changes in the sky and tomorrow I expect my head will start hurting from the pressure changes like it did during Rita an Allison. My dog is already acting a little hyper and going outside and smelling the air. The bugs are real active too, but that could be the heat.

Comfort food, I wonder if someday (far in the future) we will talk about comfort exercise? Kinda doubt it! Stay safe!

acccckkkkk Lory! I'd be freaking out too and you're thinking so sanely! I love that you bought baby carrots to snack on -- a little crunch for your munch. You'll get through this and hopefully you'll have power before too long. Be safe and be in touch as much as you can!

Stay safe!! Great job on the grocery shopping...it's like I'm always amazed that when a snow storm is coming here in the south, every body runs to the store to buy bread and milk...the bread I can see to make sandwiches when the power is out, but milk???? It has to stay cold...of course if it is snow, put it in it...but still...Carrots and ranch is YUMMMY, and so much crunchier than chips! (Now why can't I forget the chips???)

They call it "comfort" food for a reason, huh? I know when we had the big fires here last October my husband and I were craving KFC. Is there some other treat you can give yourself? a magazine or new book to read? an art project from Michael's?
