Sunday, Sep 14 2008 - HURRICANE IKE

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

We survived the hurricane without any damage to our house, well any major damage. A piece of fence got blown down and during the worst part of the storm the rain came in through part of the wall base boards in our kitchen. Other than that we are out of power and will be our of power for who knows how long. Al of Missouri City where I live lost it's power when the transformer feeding it was blown. Half of Sugarland is also without power as well, but my daughter's house which is in Richmond, close to Katy,Texas has power and never really lost power. That's were we are now.We were able to finally make phone contact with them them today. It is nice ti be sitting in some cool air. Our neighborhood lost a lot of trees and fences, and a few shingled patches on selected roofs. The play ground suffered a lost of it's covering over the shaded area. I haven't driven around to check out the rest of the neighborhood since the officials were asking people not too. also my city has been put on a curfew.I haven't seen any of the pictures from the area yet. The minute we got here, my husband wanted to watch something besides hurricane coverage. He is like that. I will see if I can get some looks on the computer soon. I have a good friend whose house is on the water in Galveston, I imagine it isn't there anymore.
Food wise, there is that feeling to want to eat bigger portions because you don't want to waste your food since you can't save it. That was hard to throw it out when I could have eaten it. Also, there is or was until I got here, no saving leftovers. Then there is that disaster feeling of this could be y last meal for a while, so I had better eat up thinking. I resisted that. OK, nibbling because I'm stressed, I'm not doing too well on that, but I'm trying to keep counting my calories and weighing myself so reality stays with me. Water, water, water, is a key for stress and the hot weather environment here. I must remember this. By the way we had hot water and plenty of water unlike Houston which lost it's water pressure and has everyone boiling their water and drinking bottle water right now.
I don't know we will be able to go back home. I'll try to write as often as I can.

I'm glad to hear you didn't suffer any bad damage to your home. Hopefully they'll send all the extra electricians from Louisiana over to Texas. (They guy who reconnected my parents' electricity was part of a team from Kansas City) I know this is a tough time with eating. Do the best you can and deal with the result when life gets back to normal. By the way, it might be comforting to know that there are physiological reasons why we eat when there is a disaster going on--it's programmed in our bodies to eat more then because there might not be more later.
