Tuesday, Sep 23 2008 - Getting back in the groove
View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
Recovering from the hurricane is a little like getting back on a diet. You just do it. I was one of the lucky one ones whose house wasn't damage and life wasn't disrupted much. Still, I did have to go through life without power, clean out my frig, buy and re-stock supplies, and figure out how to make a already tight budget go further due to the strains of a storm that blew through. Through it all I learned I could survive living with my daughter ( yet again ), do with out electricity ( although the asthma did act up ), plan healthy meals from can foods, and not gain any weight ( when I got back to my own scale I found out I had not gained weight and that SIL's scale weighed heavier than my scale ). I some how managed to get control of my snacking and calm myself down keep my eating under control and not use the situation as an excuse to eat. I did have problems with salt retention since I ate canned products more than I usually do though. Yesterday, I am glad to report my life seemed to return to a some what normal routine as I finally made it back to the gym and went about my daily chores as usual. Unfortunately, there are still 35 % of us who don't have electricity in the area and of course all of Galveston is a wreck including her surrounding communities.
Yesterday when I went to the gym I did my first complete weight training session vs. cardio work out. I now have been cleared on enough of the weight machines that I have a good 30 minutes worth of exercises to do when I do weights. So, on weight days I do, 10 minutes on the treadmill, 15 min- 20 on stretches and PT exercises, 30- 45 minutes on weight machines. I would have finished my day with some more treadmill time, but I had to go the doctor. I think this is the routine I am going to do on weight day. I am planning on doing weight days two times a week depending on how my back takes it. Most of my weight training is upper body since that is what my PTs are working on. I have a few ab and adductor machine exercises and the dreaded leg press which I hate. I can do many lower back machines because of my spine.
I'm trying to catch up on blogs today, so I'm keeping my blog short today. The picture I am posting today is of the sky right before the hurricane came in where my daughter lives. Where we live the sky was gray black, but where she lived it was brilliant. Her husband took these photos around 7 when Ike was just of the coast. I'll be posting these photos all week Hope you enjoy them.

Glad to see you back again, and that you're okay. The tofu recipe was pretty good because it didn't taste like tofu. It tasted like the bread crumbs and pistachios it was rolled in. The site I got it from was http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/. The Calorie King desktop program can be used by more than one person. The database is good, probably same one as online, and can be updated. The diary can be uploaded to the one online, but you can't download the online one to the desktop. One way only. The Calorie King Recipe Book program is $20, and has a library of recipes, plus you can enter your own. The recipes show up in the Calorie King desktop program database when you reopen it, which is nice. Both are good programs. I like your photo of the hurricane.

Sounds like things are good for you after the big storm. The picture looks a lot like the storm clouds we get up here when there are tornadoes around. You are doing great with your exercise!!

30 ,omites pm weight training is perfect! that's awesome! thats a cool sky! As for me, I started with WW in 2001, officially hit my goal weight (65 lbs later) in 2003. So, I have been here before with the BMI -- definitely though, the body fat percentage has never been lower -- when I started my first boot camp, I was at 36.4% body fat, now I am at 28.6% ---just inside of normal for a woman!

You are so right--you have to just start doing it and before you know it you are back on your diet and back in the swing of things post-hurricane. Glad you're feeling well enough to get to the gym after all that's gone on!

It's so nice to hear that you are getting settled in back home. What an experience you've been through. Congratulations for not gaining weight during the ordeal -- I'm sure that was challenging to eat during this time. I agree - Heros season opener was great -- don't you love the DVR?
