Thursday, Sep 25 2008 - water retention & how did CSI NY END ?

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

Everyone talks about water retention at some point in their lives. It's a sad fact of a woman's life. Some of us suffer from it more than others. It is for that reason I try not to eat gobs of salty foods and season my foods with basic spices rather than tons of salt. Unfortunately, this past week I had to eat a lot more foos that were canned and thus a little more salt than my body was used to. Sure enough I had a problem with water retention as my three clear cut sign s of water retention showed up on my body. They were: swollen ring finger, swollen knees, 2 pound unexplained weight gain. Does this sound familiar to some of you ? Well, from reading some of your blogs it should. Beside the weight gain, your bodies will give off other signals that you are retaining water, such as the swollen ring finger on me or the swollen knees. How about going to the bath room all the time or feeling thirsty a lot ? Now since we talked about it, how do we get rid of the excess slat in our bodies ? Simple, drink plenty of fluids and let nature take it's course, and of course stay away from salty foods. If you continue to have a problem see your doctor about medication but don't self medicate this as it can cause great harm to your blood pressure and heart. It is a simple truth that around that time in the month most woman have this problem, so be extra careful with the salt if you tend to crave it around this time, and be sure to drink water. It usually takes my body a good three to four days of avoiding salty foods and getting back to my regular diet to flush out the salt and get back to normal. I also noticed some medicines can cause this same effect. Anybody else have some similar problems and idea on this topic ?
Yesterday was a rest day for me. My doctor had put me on a new antibotic for this sinus infection I have had for a month. The new drug seems to be working as I am beginning to feel better. I'm not coughing and hacking as much now. I even slept the night through last night. In fact I feel asleep before I could reprogram my DVR to add 15 minutes onto my favorite show CSI NY to account for the Pres speech last night. GRR. So it didn't get the last minutes of the show !!!!! Does anyone know how the show ended ?
Anyway, I'll have to remember every time there is a speech to set my timer for recorded shows back some now.
My time with my PT is almost up now, but she has given me a lot of exercises and weight machines to build up on now. I am hoping next year my insurance company will allow me to go back to them periodically for follow ups to get more exercises and to continue my progression. I am going to write my company and explain this to them about how far I have come and see what they say.
Food wise I am doing good to maintain but not lose.
Talk to everyone latter.

I missed the last 15 minutes of "Criminal Minds" for the same reason. I couldn't record CSI NY--for some reason when I put in "first run" only it kept recording re-runs, and there were some all day marathons of the show....grrrr is right. So I missed that show too. My big concern with sodium was my blood pressure. My doctor was concerned with my B/P and has me recording it (I keep forgetting). It's been okay, though. I have what they call "white coat hypertension" - elevated B/P in the doctors office. :laugh5: Anyway, I started monitoring my sodium on CK because I was worried. I do have a tendency to retain fluid sometimes, especially if I don't get enough water. ~~ sorry about your sinus infection...get well soon!

You were right! Now that I am not in training for anything (since the race is over), I am back to just working out regularly and losing weight. I plan to keep up running a couple times a week, but not so regimented and with more options for different kinds of cardio. =D Sorry, I don't know how the show ended...I didn't watch it but I love that show!

Don't get me wrong, my husband finds me attractive, and I consider myself a very lucky woman to have such a great husband.

I think the water retention issue might be worse in women because of hormones? I can't get my rings on period b/c of my weight gain. That is a goal for me. Besides, I don't want all those men hitting on me! (Ha, those days are over!) But there was an older man on the psych ward with my dad who was eying me. I am so happy I can attrack the attention of aging psychiatric patients. Wow-wee! Am I hot! Just joking. I'm glad things are getting back to normal for you, and that your sinus infection is going away. Those make a person feel sick all over. Take care!

Water retention hits me once in awhile. I drink green tea several times a day and it speeds up the loss. There must be a good reason why women do that but I have never figured it out. Glad you are feeling better.
