Thursday, Oct 30 2008 - Most tempting time of year

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

I find this the most temping time of the year starting with Halloween going into Thanksgiving and Christmas. Last year I didn't gain a pound but managed to keep losing during this time. So, in order to keep up the same progress as I made last year, I am back to logging and watching my calories big time . I recognize that the next three months will take a lot of resolve as now I am involved in a lot more social events than I was this time last year which require me to be around food more. It is good that I put myself on food alert and even on a tight reign. I would have done great yesterday on my diet if it weren't for my lack of craving some sugar free chocolate. OK, I finally broke down after 18 months of not eating any and had some. It was because I am the one who has to go buy the Halloween candy in this family and that Russell Stover Nutty Nougie Chew was calling my name. Well it's out of my system now, quite literally. I did buy enough bags I hope and my hubby opened his favorite last night and got his craving out too. We haven't had candy in this house since last Halloween. Thank goodness I found all miniatures. Also, all the other bags will remain closed till 5pm Friday night ! I will open one bag at a time, if any bag is left unopened it will get returned to the store so this family won't have any problem and won't have to pawn the sugar off on anybody else. The left over candy at 8 pm gets donated to the group of teenagers down the block who know to come to my house at 8 and collect my remaining candy which is always chocolate. This is how I kept the candy out of my house last year and it worked real well. I don't have kids to worry about. Now my brother puts his kids candy up and lets them have two pieces a day after dinner so it last a long time. They have to eat their dinner to get their candy. When I was there for Christmas one year they were still working on that Halloween candy ! Anyway, I got the miniatures in order to cut down on the amount of sugar I was giving out.
Xena and took a walk down this trail yesterday that was made just for walkers in our subdivision. It is a three mile course from one end to one end that is broken into three parts. I took 1/3 of it. I don't think I will take Xena on it again because were she has to walk had too many ant beds and sticks from trees knocked down from the Hurricane. The gravel path could hurt her paws too. I would be a little scared of alligators coming up from the creek too, so I think when I walk her I will stick to the side walk and just walk the neighborhood and avoid the scenic path. We did get in a good walk as it was 73 degrees out and had a brisk breeze to push us. I have been taking my walks outside lately because the weather has been so pleasant. You don't get many of these types of days here in Houston, so I am enjoying them because it won't be too long before I will have to go back in doors to exercise.
I am searching for another pair of walking shoes. I have ordered two new Drew Flashes, two different sizes in hopes that one will fit my extra wide feet. If these don't fit I will probably have to go custom. My husband now realizes that my success in weight loss and health has been my ability to exercise and the shoes have played a part. He now realizes that I have very hard feet to fit, especially in athletic shoes. So, he said I could get custom shoes if I can't find shoes that fit. I'm hoping that these Drew shoes that I'm wearing now were not a fluke and I can find a pair like them again. The first pair I ordered in my size were too small by a size ! I called the manufacture and told them my story. Drew said sometimes a shoe can be off by a half size depending on which factory it was made in. POOHY for quality control is all I can say. When I compared the shoe I was sent and the one I am wearing I DON"T think so. The shoe is way off in size and width ! Someone completely downsized the shoe !!!!! SO, I ordered the next size up and hope it will be wide enough. It's the width that I need since I am a 4x plus some due to a bunion on both feet. Without a good pair of athletic shoes I would not have been able to come this far. So this is a big PRAYER request for those of you who prayer.
Talk to you all latter.

I know what you mean about Halloween candy. We give out between 50-100 pieces each year, depending on the weather. Hubby and family like to take it hunting with them so I have about three weeks of miniature candy around. I am enjoying the miniature Tootsie Pops, they are 17 calories a piece, you can suck on them quite awhile and one is very satisfying.

Good luck finding the right shoe! And -- good luck with facing your challenges during this season. I don' t buy Halloween candy for the kids, so there's no temptation for me there. I have been giving out Pez's for years -- the kids love them and we get so few kids trick-or-treating that it isn't too expensive to give them out. :wave1:
