Monday, Nov 24 2008 - house sitting, wish I could be paid

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

Here I am at my daughter's house house sitting and watching their dog while some workman put in tile in their living room and hallway. They needed someone to stay and let the workman in and keep the dog out of trouble while they were at work and asked me if I could do it. Now, I wish they would have asked me first before they made their plans to do this, but I think they didn't realize just how many days this project would take and that someone would need to be home with the workmen while they installed the flooring. This comes at a time I need to be preparing my house for guest. :devil7: I may not have a clean house for my guest since hubby over the weekend didn't help me much either when I asked him too. At least I have access to her lap top which gives me a good excuse to read blogs all day,
I finished my first course in my recovery program and got my first " chip ". The course had nine weeks were we went over eight steps of recovery. The next course we will take four weeks for each step and dig deeper into each step. Here are the steps or choices as the book like to refer to it because we are consciously making willful choices as to our actions :
Choice 1 : Admitting Need, The reality choice
Choice 2 : Getting Help, The hope choice
Choice 3 : Letting go, The commitment choice
Choice 4 : Coming Clean, The housecleaning choice
CHoice 5 : Making Changes, The Transformation
Choice 6 : Repairing relationships, The relationship choice
Choice 7 : Maintaining Momentum, The growth choice
Choice 8 : Recycling Pain : The sharing choice

Some of my favorite quotes from this book were:

"We can not control all that happens to us, but we can control how we choose to respond to what happens to us. That is the secret to happiness. "

"Trying to be the general manager of the universe is frustrating "

" Frustration is a symptom of a much deeper issue: a failure to acknowledge that we are not God. "

"Playing God is one job where failure is guaranteed. You're not big enough. "

" To deny your pain is to refuse God's power to help you recover. You will never find healing from your hurts, hang ups, and habits until you confront your pain. Unless you have lived a perfect life, it's a sure thing that you struggle with some kind of issue."

" Instead of denying your pain, allow it to help motivate you to get help. "

" Don't ignore your pain. Recognize it as God's denial buster and open youself up to the hope and power He offers. "

" Someone has accurately said that the most difficult thing about the Christian life is that it is so daily "
Well, I don't want to read the book to you, but, these are some of the few that stood out to me because they spoke to me about my situation. I was in plenty of pain emotionally and physically before I went on the diet. I squirmed and fussed and knew the Lord was trying to get my attention about my emotional and physical condition. I wasn't were I should be as a Christian nor was I treating my body right as a person. The emotional depression as well as the spiritual depression was beginning to drain me beyond what I could bear. When I finally had had enough and reach out to the Lord and asked for His help, He showed me the way. I know a lot of my strength comes from Him and the people He sends my way to help me out. My prayer for each and everyone of you is that you will find this same kind of joy.

What kind of recovery is the book designed for specifically, any addiction? I love the one about trying to be the general manager of the universe...I resemble that remark some :blush4: -- yes, I suspect you are correct about the alcohol - both before and during the game. The fella who chartered our bus had a strict no alcohol rule for the way home to allow people to dry out some -- it worked for most, but....I looked at the fatfreevegan.com website and I think I am going to try the oatmeal chocolate cookies - my brothers girlfriend is vegan and I wanted to make something for her, even though she is making something for herself as well.

Wow Lory! What a cool book you are reading! What is the name of it? My favorite (of the ones you listed) is "We can not control all that happens to us, but we can control how we choose to respond to what happens to us. That is the secret to happiness." Sorry you are stuck sitting at your daughter's house. Maybe she can come over Wednesday night and help you clean for Thursday?

Thanks for the suggestion. I assume you can get the book without going to a group? My main concern is that when I move, I will have NO ONE to watch the boys.....AT ALL! :laugh5: I loved the quotes.
