Monday, Dec 22 2008 - EXERCISE GOAL!!!!!!!!!

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

Glory, I hit several exercise goals today ! After going to my cardiologist, found out that I can indeed rev it up a bit, so I tried. I want to be able to do that stress test next week and not the chemical stress test like in years past. So, I set out to push myself and see if I could do what she said I would need to do. I had always been afraid to push myself, seriously. I got on that exercise bike and warmed up for 15 minutes which in and of itself has been a trial since two weeks ago I couldn't do five minutes on it. ( Now I can do 30 min at level 3 easy ). I stretched out, then headed to the treadmill. Ok, the doctor said I would have to get the heart rate up to 120 for nine minutes at an incline. I would need to start up slowly...it wouldn't have to be a big incline just as long as it got my heart rate up past 120. At 3.9 speed an a incline of 5.5 my heart rate finally reached 120. It took me five minutes to get there. I was able to sustain that for the last four minutes which means I will be able to do the treadmill stress test. After doing this I knocked the treadmill down to 3.0 speed and incline 2 and kept walking and it felt good. No pain in the back or SI-joint or tightness. I just kept on going. 17 minutes latter I had done a mile !!!!!!!!!! Another first since I had been timing myself on my watch !!!! I did another mile and realized that with the three miles I did on the bike, the walking I did around the doctors office and stores, the two miles on the treadmill, I have gone around 10,000 steps today, a first for me. I also have used up around 300 calories, another first for me. I don't know how many cals I used up doing some of my core exercises, but I probably didn't eat up a lot there. Over all today I got in about 2 1/2 hours of exercise to make up for being very lazy last week. I decided to make exercise my me time and not feel guilty about it. The next few days I may not get much time to go to the gym since I have plenty of work to do at home, but I needed to get in some treadmill time if I am going to be able to do that stress test. So, I will have to work out some between now and the test next week. Oh, I have to have the test in order to have my foot surgery which was approved by my diabetic doctor last week providing I have this stress test. Also, my cardiologist told me what she thought my goal weight should be. Two votes 130-135 from three doctors. Guess this means I have to get on the ball. I still have some weight to lose and can't be satisfied at 150. My BMI is still at the over weight category and they want it in the normal range. This means I will have to buy more clothes. YUK !!!!! Not my favorite thing to do.
If I don't get back on line before Christmas, have a good one. Lory

Lory, good job on the exercise! The first time I got on the elliptical I couldn't do 5 minutes. I increased it by 5 minutes every time I got on and was doing 45 in no time. When I first started doing SPIN, I had to back down on a lot of things they were doing...but I did what I could. Initially I had a hard time when I got my HR to 120, but now that is my sustained rate during my work out with my new max now 140 - 150's. It does happen, but you have to PUSH--our bodies are amazing. It's good to have something to challenge yourself - something fun to do.
