Saturday, Dec 27 2008 - A good Christmas
View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
It was a Good Christmas. I managed to feed my family a relatively healthy meal. We had steak, roasted potatoes, grilled brocolini, which my future sister in law and brother had never heard of, rolls, and a diabetic sugar free yogurt pie made from cool whip, jello, and sugar free yogurt. I gave them fresh veggies, fruit, and humus to snack on before the main meal. No one seemed to mind that there weren't the regular loads of desserts hanging around, although I had made for my brother a box of cookies which he got into. They were low sugar oatmeal cookies I got from a diabetic cookbook that used splenda brown sugar substitute. He didn't seem to notice. I put one by him.

Latter that night I fed them stuffed yellow peppers Mexican style with Mexican rice. Another diabetic recipe I have put on this blog. My brother bought out a $50.00 bottle of red wine for Christmas dinner to have with the steak dinner. I took a sip of the wine to see what 50 dollars buys you, but since I don't drink, I didn't have any. It was indeed a good tasting wine though. At the end of Christmas dinner my brother mentioned that if we were in Russia were his fiance is from all the men would continue to sit down and talk while the women cleaned up. My husband and I looked at him and gave him the evil eye since we had made dinner. I mentioned this was America and here it was those who cooked the dinner didn't have to clean it up and proceeded to stay in my chair ! SO did my husband who got up and went to games. My son in law and daughter cleaned up, but mostly my son in law. I managed to get out a take a little walk with the dog since we were at my daughter's house. I had to walk my dog who we took with us. It was 72 * outside that day and humid. The dogs had to do there stuff and I needed to work down my Blood sugar and get a little exercise. Exercise, something I am learning must always happen no matter what.
Now that the holiday is over I can get down to business of losing those last pounds. I will start logging this Monday if you all want to hold me accountable by checking up on me. I plan on going to the gym at least every other day. I would love to do it every day, but I'm not sure my body will go along with that. I have been told to rest every other day and do core exercise on the off days and walk the on those days.
Question.....how many of you stretch out every day ? How long do you stretch out and how many stretches do you do ? I have just bought a book of stretches for the entire body in order to see what parts of the body that I'm weak at. I am now spending about 20 minutes of my workout stretching and sometimes longer. I know Amy talked about getting in some cardio before stretching which I do on the exercise bike...then stretch...then more cardio...stretch...weights...stretch out...home
Have a good day.

My yoga class has a lot of stretching in it, probably 30 minutes, the rest is balance work. The stretching is wonderful, I feel so much better after doing it. The instructor works from the neck down, so all parts are worked and warmed up. I am going to start doing some basic stretching first thing every morning to help my stiff joints limber up. Glad you had a good Christmas. I had a good one but it was four days long so I was exhausted but happy.

Your family will thank you for cooking so healthy. I never grilled my broccoli either, must try it sometimes. And I never stretch, only when I go to my weekly training.

I
:heart2: hummus. You seem to have moved on to a new chapter, more energetic and go-get-em as ever, but more so!

I think you should try it!
=D You might be surprising us all and stand on your head
:wink3: (I can't stand on my head since I have a bad neck so I'll be really jealous if you can!)

If your joints creak that's the best time to do yoga. Most poses have variations to account for pains & aches. Many have modifications that will make it safer for your knees, wrists, or any other fragile joint. It would be best if you went to a class that is gentle so that you have a knowledgeable instructor to tell you those modifications. You might want to look for a chair yoga class too so you use a chair to help support you until you get strong and balanced.
