Friday, Jan 30 2009 - Yea it's Friday
View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
Yea it's Friday and my husband or I shall say I managed to make and send off with him his lunch every day this week. His commitment to his diet and our budget is going along. He has lost a few pounds this week by just stopping eating out and taking his lunch. I have been bugging him for years to stop eating out and start taking his lunch for these two reasons. He is finally realizing you can eat better too by taking you lunch. He has only had two sandwiches the whole week as I have made him real meals the other three days. I told him I pretty much much make a meal for myself at noon every day an enjoy taking my lunch in a lunch kit when I'm out about town so I won't have to eat at some place that charges an arm and a leg and have been doing this for years. His brother has been doing this all his life and has kept his weight off and saved his money. My husband has just been stubborn and LAZY like so many Americans even when I offered to make his lunch. Even my kids refused to take their lunches because it wasn't " fashionable " Any of you have this trouble ? Well, I think it should be fashionable to eat healthy. Fueling your body like an athlete and keeping trim should be fashionable at any age. Yesterday at the grocery store I heard a young mother direct her child away from the candy section and tell him he wasn't getting any. She looked at me as I was actually in that section getting Pat his unsweetened chocolate nibs for his sugar free pudding. I just smiled and told her, " I agree lady, I don't eat candy either, this is for my hubby. " She sighed as she managed to pull herself and her child away from from the candy section of Whole Foods which I thought was a great feat.
Yesterday's workout left me so tired I feel asleep at 8pm. Hubby and I were watching a movie and the next thing I remember was being nudged to get up and go to bed. I remember being put to bed and that was that until three in the morning when nature called. Since working out, I have noticed I have seldom had to take a sleeping pill. The tougher the work out, the better I sleep at night. There are exceptions to that, like when I do weights. Sometimes my body hurts after doing the weights because of my nerves which are bad. Now, that's when I can't get to sleep after a workout because I sometimes get a little pain after workout. Therefor, on weight day I am limiting that day to a much lighter workout in hopes I can cut down on some of the pain I have been having afterwards.
This weekend I am making a homemade pizza from Amy's roasted vegetarian pizza for my superbowl pizza. We are adding some cheese, grilled chicken, black olives to the pizza. Then we are having a toss salad and sugar free jello for me. I have a gym date with a buddy ( hi Merle ) so I'll have some extra calories for my pizza. If you are planning a superbowl dinner, what are you panning on eating ? Last year we had turkey burgers, this year homemade pizza and raw veggies. How about you ?

My husband and I usually pack a lunch. I work out east on Long Island in an area where there aren't too many choices for eating lunch out, and most are fast food. My husband has more options, but he eats the lunches I make. His coworkers ogle his lunch, and I've had offers to "supply" homemade lunches for a couple of coworkers who were admiring my salads and sandwiches. You can save a lot of money eating really nice lunches from home. Good for you for pushing hubby into this. Much healthier, and you're probably a great cook.

I bring my lunch pretty much every day. It really makes life easier. My husband used to buy his lunch everyday but he's cut back too (now he does once a week or once every two weeks). The nice thing about it is that when I do go out to eat now it's more of a treat. I like that!

Isn't amazing how you can start with a frozen meal (like Amys) and dress it up with a few things and make it special! I don't know what we're doing for tomorrow--we may go down to the Elks Lodge and watch it there. If so, I'll just have to be really careful because all the food that shows up will be soooo tempting.
It sounds like you and your hubbie are doing great. Isn't it amazing how easy it is to lose weight and save money if you don't buy lunch out everyday!?

I REMEMBER your turkey burgers from last year. That is funny. We are going to have chili & hopefully fill up on veggie appetizers. I am determined not to make it all about the food! I am glad hubby came around to your way of thinking about lunch. I finally convinced my husband of the same, now if I could just get him to eat a decent breakfast, I think he might lose some weight.

Eating at work isn't a problem because I order roasted turkey on wheat bread and then I make myself a big lettuce and veggie salad. Sometimes I have a buffalo burger or veggie soup. One thing I should change is to bring some low fat Ranch, I use a small amount of their dressing but I would enjoy it more if I had low fat dressing on it. You are a great wife to make her hubby lunch everyday!! Way to hang in there with exercise!!

So how are you feeling? It's funny that a small change like taking your lunch can really help you drop the pound, especially men. It is hard sometimes though. Your pizza sounds amazing!!
