Monday, Feb 16 2009 - hair loss and weight loss

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

How many off you all after losing a significant amount of weight had some hair hair loss ? After losing 92 pounds in 18 months I noticed that my hair had thinned in the middle and along my temples. I thought I was aging prematurely until my hair dressing told me this was common with woman who lost significant amounts of weight in a short amount of time. She assured me that once I went back to a maintenance diet that taking Boitin should take care of the situation. Thankfully, after nine months my hair has finally recovered. The thinning areas have finally filled in and my natural curl is coming back just in time for me to start my final diet stage all over again. :'( At least I will be doing this with a full head of hair. So, if any of you were thinking you were losing your hair lately, and thought it wasn't just your imagination, think twice. Your long term diet could have a lot to do with it. I was getting plenty of nutrients, it is just that my body knew it was being deprived of calories and was being shocked by the lower calories it was being forced to accept. The end result was hair loss. ( Much like a dog sheds when it's scared )
Gotta go, the hospital awaits me this morning....Can't wait to get this final nerve burn over. Everyone have a good Monday.

Keep taking that biotin! I've got clients with thin and fragile hair and taking a low dose, 1,000 mg per day, made a very big difference to one of them in six months. She has a very sensitive system and wanted to stick with the low end of the suggested dosage (from her doctor). The healthy range is 1,000 to 3,000 mg per day; it's a good idea to take 1500 in the am and 1500 in the pm to spread it out and feed your system evenly. Hope that next course of treatment works out well.

I haven't noticed my hair getting thinner (it's already very fine) but I've noticed that my nails are horrible thin and peely. Wonder if it's related?

Since I didn't lose significant weight in a short time, I guess I don't qualify...I took the long haul! Hope your appt went well!

I have enough hair for a colony of folks. I don't know that losing any would even be noticeable on me. I am glad that your hair has filled in. I know it is a common problem. Hang in there. Keep at this!
