Tuesday, Apr 14 2009 - couldn't get motivated to exercise
View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
No matter how I tried I have not been able to get motivated to exercise this week. I have been exhausted and in pain all week. I have my gym bag in my car and know that I need to make that trip to see if the pain will go away when I start exercising. Right now I am having a lot of nerve pain and I don't like what this could mean so I have been really lazy about the whole exercise thing. It could in fact be because I have taken off so much time or it could be because I have strained myself when I worked with the rescue dogs a few weeks ago. As far as being tired, I blame allergies for not getting a good nights sleep lately. Terri, I can feel for what you have going on with your system. Getting rid of the gunk can take weeks !
I just read that it can take up to five months to get dogs clear of the kennel cough virus even tough they can get over the symptoms after about a month. I did get them some anti bacterial drops to put into their water. Sheesh, I'll try anything if it helps. These drops can be put in a vaporizer but I don't have one. Along with the antibiotics they are on, I hope they both get better sooner than five months. As I stated my dog had her shot, but you can still get the condition even with the shot.
Ok, my diet today wasn't perfect thanks to me going and getting my husband's chocolate at Whole Foods. There in the chocolate section was this little interesting tin three inch by one inch tin cylinder that caught my eye. It was colored like an artist canvas and had an unusual name, Sweetriot. The canister turned out to be 100 % dark chocolate nibs dunked in either 50 %, 70 %, or 100 % dark chocolate with each piece being 1-2 calories a piece. Each tins carries about 140 pieces with the total fat being 12 grams, 0 sodium, 12 grams of carb, 6 grams of sugar, and 2 grams of protein so even if you ate the whole canister you would have only done 140 calories damage. The actual idea behind the product is that when you get a chocolate craving, you just eat a few pieces to satisfy your craving. Well, I couldn't stop at a few pieces myself.

So, at least the tin is only a 140 calories which was my afternoon snack. The next time I get a chocolate craving I will reach for one of these because it fits the bill since it is fairly low in sugar and carbs for a sweet. Actually, they aren't that sweet, almost a blend of tart and sweet since we are dealing with pure chocolate here. My husband eats unsweetened chocolate nibs on his sugar free chocolate pudding for the crunch effect. 1 tsp is 12 calories and adds a nice touch to those 60 calories puddings which have a slight after taste. Unfortunately, I can't eat them because they are made with milk and the soy puddings have way too much sugar in them for me.
OK, I talked a lot about sweets, taming my sweet tooth is something I am trying to do. I was a good girl on one count. I came home from the store with some beautiful yellow mangos. I will make some mango freezies with them tonight. Now that is the best way to cure my sweet tooth with God's sweets. Strawberries are finally in season than goodness and are looking good as well as their price. You can now find red peppers for 99 cents a piece ever so often down here. I did discover this winter Pink Lady and Honey Crisp Apples. As a kid my favorite fruit was cantaloupe, but I have yet to taste any as good as they were as when I was growing up. Red grapes are my favorite grapes when they are sweet and not tart. I prefer red to yellow watermelon and naval to all the other oranges. Never have tried a Kumquat or some of those weird looking fruit with horny gords from Central America. I have tried Plantations since my neighbors own a restaurant that serves them fried. Over all, like the guy on the TV show LIFE, I'm a big fruit eater now and can just go crazy if my body would let it down the fruit section. I now prefer fruit over candy. NOw, if I can just get rid of that nagging chocolate craving.

maybe allow yourself a little chocolate every day..sometimes we don't want it when we're allowed to have it, but want it badly when we feel like we can't...make sense?//sorry you are in pain, that is no fun, but like you say, maybe the exercise will help rather than hurt!

Those chocolates sound divine--almost worth me making a trip to Whole Foods. I rarely find cantaloupe that taste as good as the ones my dad grew either. They were so nice!

Fruit instead of candy.
:y: Maybe you should talk about the benefits/nonbenefits of exercise with your doctor regarding the nerve pain.

The same thing happened to my most recently adopted dog, Harry. He was only at the SPCA a week, and within the week I adopted him, he started to cough like he had something caught in his throat. The coughing got worse, but it didn't slow him down. He continued to eat and play normally I was told it sounds worse than it is, but it was hard not to feel a lot of sympathy for him while he was in the coughing stage.
