Friday, Apr 24 2009 - confessions of a candyholic

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

Ok, only people here at CK would get it when I confessed to my recovery group people tonight that this month I have been really bad about sneaking and going out and getting chocolate candy behind my husband's back and eating it. We made a deal not to bring candy and junk food into the house, and I being the diabetic made a promise to myself I would not even eat sugar free candy in order to keep my blood sugar down without the use of insulin. Some people in my recovery group couldn't understand why just one bite of even sugar free candy was so bad until I said it was like an alcoholic taking a drink. It leads me to want more sugar and gets me off my diet not to mention messes up my insulin resistance problem. Sugar just isn't that good for me even in small amounts because I have trouble just keeping it in small amounts. Fruit is ok, no problem handling fruits thank goodness, but sugary things are another story. So, my sponsor suggested I try to just go one week without candy and try the " sobriety " approach to my problem. Well, I had never thought about it that way. Taking a cue from AA. So, I am going to approach it this way this week and go through a chocolate dry out. A sweet retreat of sorts. :cry3: A drying out of the candy monster and the raiding of the pantry demon at night for sweets. The pantry has be exorcised and I handed over my secret stash to my sponsor I had in my purse tonight. :$ Even the dog has looked at me when I got up to go to the bathroom and wondered whether I was headed to the pantry, instead I decided to write this blog since I couldn't get back to sleep. She was greatly disappointed and went back to her bed. ( the new dog picked up I was eating at night and would beg me for a dog treat which I would give her...:$ since she was so pitifully under weight when I bought her home...now she doesn't need that extra treat. =D)
Well, I have some goals for this week :
Get over the surgical procedures in one piece without eating extra food.
get back to exercise as soon as possible
PLan a good menu and stick to my diet
Do my CR homework
teach dogs to get along and Callie not to get into trash cans
Have a good week end.

Great plan. :y: You can do it and won't have the guilt and the insulin issue hopefully!
