View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day
I looked over my calorie intake and realized the only thing really wrong with myself is not my slight over eating, but my NOT going to the gym. So far this week I have been 900 calories over target. Exercise would have taken care of at least 60 % of that even with my handicap. For most of you all who can run and do the elliptical, that would have been off in two exercise sessions ! It is true, I must get off the bu** and get to the gym. This will be priority next week. This is why I admire my friends Terri, Nadine, an Amy for setting the example for me over the past year. Now, I just have to get it in my mind that my handicap will not hinder me and the pain will be worth it. So please folks, I am asking from you to kick my hiney and get me going here. You all can run marathons, but I need some kind of goal. Maybe it could be a time goal or a how many days in a row I can make it to the gym thing. Maybe that will be my marathon. Maybe I can set a goal of being able to do something that will make me feel proud of myself. I don't really know at this point what goal that will do it for me yet. I am very busy on T. & Thur. Those days are hardest to get to the gym.
Good news is that I am drinking more water and less soda. I have determined the sweetener in the soda actually aids in my sugar addiction. So, I am trying to limit how many sodas I have and when I drink them. I do use them when I get a sugar craving, but I have to be careful. I have found that the less carbs I eat at night does help me from waking up in the middle of the night wanting something to eat. A protein snack if necessary works best for me at night. I even found a veggi soup with a piece of chicken is fine. I made a home made veggie soup last night and my husband actually ate it. He liked the fact that I kept the veggies crunchy. The recipe is simple. Take a box of organic no msg chicken or beef broth, tour favorite pasta sauce ( I liked using a fancy one that black olives and capers in it ), saute onions, green and red peppers in 1 tbs of olive or canola oil, add 1 cup of largely diced carrots, celery, zucchini, and mushrooms. Keep the mushroom pieces large so they stay crunchy. I added 1 tbs of Penzy's Firewoods Seasoning but you can leave yours unseasoned or add some Lawerys if you want. Mine made 11 one cup servings. I forgot to figure out the cals on this soup, but I will do it latter. The soup said crunchy for left overs. Next I am going to try butternut squash soup on mu hubby since I have one on my shelf right now. I did bake one last week using cinnamon, cumin, and a little olive oil. The flavors went well together. I did try after the veg was cooked putting some splenda brown sugar and smart squeeze on a piece and that piece was really yummy ! Ok, while I'm tying out veggies, let me just tell you, I'm not trying to make anyone hungry here. The real reason for this veggie fest is this, my hubby three years ago wouldn't try any of these ! Now, He ask what veggie are we having tonight more often than what meat are we having ! He wants his veggies steamed and doctored up with cheese, milk, bread crumbs, etc. He now says why do so many people try so hard to mess up the flavor of the vegetable ! And here I was trying to come up with some fancy vegetable dish for Christmas dinner one night ! AN anyody have some good vegetable stories out there ?

good girl!
:).
:)
I cook lunch for a friend at work and that has kept me on the straight and narrow--the more veggies and fruits, the better!
I try to add veggies to everything and find that she's adventerous in her eating, so all the better
Butternut squash soup ROCKS! I use fat free half and half to make it really creamy without adding any fat and a lot less calories. Great fiber and very tasty.
I am anxiously awaiting Wii Walk to show up--hopefully walking around an island playing a game will improve my interest in the treadmill

I can understand wherd your husband is coming from. Growing up potatoes and canned veggies were pretty much all we ate. I still hate canned veggies but have discovered how wonderful fresh and frozen can be. I had never even seen asparagus served until about 5 years ago, now it is one of my favorites.
Since it doesn't get too cold there, maybe you can find a 5k to train to walk? I find it much easier to stick to a training schedule if I have a goal event. There are a lot of training schedules on the net

veggies are fun, for sure! as for the exercise thing, I can tell you after I hurt my ankle I lost a lot of my stamina, so it definitely takes time to rebuild. Start slow. Aim for 30 minutes a day of WHATEVER 3 times a week, and slowly increase it from there. If you can't do 30 minutes at a time, do 10 here, 10 there...as long as you are moving more. If all of that seems too easy, then increase it. Schedule it in and be accountable to it!

I know I've been having a lot more need for crunch. I have been using a lot more carrots and celery in salads and in soups. I've never had butternut squash, ever. Something I need to try I guess.
As far as the gym, I need to get back there too as soon as this cold lets up. No excuses, just have to get there next week too.
