MOUGHI's CalorieKing blog

Sunday, Feb 14 2010 - 13 minute walking mile

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

This is a mile stone for shorty here. I walked my two miles without the dogs here today and times myself. I managed to walk my two miles in 27 minutes. I did it at the mall yesterday and thought something was wrong with my watch too. That's two days in a roll so it must be true. Two years ago I was doing a 20 minute mile and it was taking me 45 minutes to cover two miles. Then I got down to a 17 minute mile with the dog. I guess my next goal is to increase this to three miles now.

I wore a wrist heart rate monitor and it said I got my heart rate up to 114 beats and used up around 200 cals. My pedometer said I only used up half that amount of calories. Now the wrist heart rate monitor has to be up dated every five minutes by you putting your finger on the watch to update the heart beat unlike the band monitors which give out a constant rate. I still assume you get a better guesstimate on how many calories you use up than you do with your pedometer. At least this is my question. If this is the case, I have been using more on my walks than I have been giving myself credit for in the past. That's good to know. It's not as frustrating. Now, it also means that I have a longer way to get on the indoor bike before I will eat up calories on it. My muscles just are not strong enough on it to burn calories on it yet. It is good right now just to use muscles I am not using on my walks though, and to use when I can't get out.

I haven't been diligent with cutting back on food enough to loose weight. I seem to have a mental block or a stronghold that keeps me from seeing myself 30 pounds slimmer. I must conquer this problem in order to mover on. This is what I am working on in my First Place bible study and in my CR group. I know eventually I will get there. but sometimes I get frustrated with the kind of week I had this week ! I sabotaged myself like crazy this week. One of the things my friends keep reminding me is, perfection is not possible and success is not measured that way. Success is measured by the way we keep getting back up and how we keep working at living. Well, in those terms I was successful this week. Have a good day.

I find that when I lose a bit of weight and become more comfortable in my clothes and body, my resolve to lose weight will suddenly slack--maybe that's what is happening. You've lost so much, can you recall what got you motivated to stick to your food plan before?

Wow, that is great, you have come so far. I am sure the HRM wasn't too far off on the calorie burn.

I burn about 150 calories for a 30 minutes walk if I walk fast. If I stroll, it is about 110. In the beginning I used to burn double of those though.
