Saturday, Aug 21 2010 - tax free weekend

View MOUGHI's food & exercise for this day

In Texas we have tax free weekend where the stores will discount close and the state suspends the tax. Needless to say my husband will wait all year and do his clothes shopping on this one day. Men's work clothes do not change from season to season here in Houston. He just has to wear dress slacks and dress shirts. THerefor, buying in the late summer once a year will do. He asked me why I don't do the same. Yuck, for one, I would be buying all fall clothes ! Personally, my mother always had to take me dragging and crying to buy clothes anyway before school every year.

I hated the trying on everything she handed to me, especially the dresses, and the shoes were torture since nothing would ever fit. Who was she joking about the shoes I would never be able to fit into those black and white loafers. I think my parents were in constant denial about my feet and the need to go get custom there ! I developed at an early age a poor self image just by shoe and clothes shopping. I didn't like frilly dresses, did that mean I wasn't girly enough ? Why couldn't little girls wear pants like the boys since they were comfortable? Back in my day girls weren't allowed to wear pants to school ! So, I thought there was something wrong with me for wanting to be comfortable, not liking shopping, and hating my feet in shoes. I grew up only wanting to wear jeans, T-shirts, and any shoe that didn't squeeze my feet. I seldom found dress shoes, thus seldom have wore dresses.

So, the self image was somewhat molded around the whole shopping ordeal of my youth. So is my not liking to buy clothes linked to my bad self image and bad experience in youth ? Soul searching is what I have been doing a lot of recently to help me though my food addiction. I was just hit in the face with it today as my husband was shopping with glee today that I still have a way to go on some fundamental issues for myself. Yep, I can hear some of my friends at CR now, at least I am out of denial.

I agree with you - I hate shopping, I can't understand the people who go to the mall and spend all day looking. I have to have a real reason to go for clothes, and since my body has been shrinking, the size of the bra was the problem this week. So I headed to the 2 stores that SHOULD have what I needed. Well, they had a sale, buy one and get one free. But of course, they only had ONE of what I needed - doesn't that tick you off?!!! Therefore, I went out feeling like I did before I came in - HATING SHOPPING.

As for the perogies - from my blog - they are Ukranian, but in Canada - there are so many different ethnic foods, they are being blended, so you could have German Cabbage, Ukranian Peroigies, Greek salad, and Thai chicken at the same meal ---- gotta love the variety.
