Monday, Jan 14 2008 - First day back at work.
View MSTEECHUR's food & exercise for this day
the next time you see a group of high school students and think "Ew. Ick." I want you to remember my kids. I teach 5 girls and 37 boys. Today:
1. I came in to find my room spotless. (A very rare occurrence.)
2. Two welcome back cards on my desk, one in LOLcatz speak and the other a homemade Disney card.
3. I am sure EVERY one of them welcomed me back, or said they were glad to see me, or missed me. I mean every one.
4. I was signing off finals today and my second years could see I was really getting tired, so they asked how they could help and completely took over.
5. Curt wanted to give me a hug, but I told him it would hurt too much so I suggested a "virtual hug".
6. Not ONE was off task today.
I don't know how I managed to get all the best kids in the school, but somehow I did. Heck, I get teary eyed just thinking about it.
Unfortunately, there is no way I can make it back tomorrow. I was in so much pain by the time I left it was all I could do to make it to the store for a few things. Thank GOD I had Roy drive me. Part of the pain is my back. I have to hunch over so much, and did spend most of the day on my feet (at least in the AM class).
Good news is that my hematocrit has gone up two points. It's still low, but not low enough to need a transfusion. Yay!
My dogs were SO happy to see me when I got home, Dash actually howled! He never howls! He's been ridiculously clingy since I got home.
I'm going to try to get back at the latest, Thursday and Friday. I want to treat my kids to a little party, and grades are due Thursday. I did get a TON done today, at least. Talked with a parent, finished all grading, ran off materials, and set up the final.
I am running a fever tonight. I think I am coming down with something. That explains the extra exhausted feeling.

From what I have read, you have been through HELL. Be patient with yourslf and how fast you try to come back. You sound like a wonderful teacher and your students seem like they are the cream of the crop!

Or perhaps the extra exhausted feeling could have something to do with, I dunno, JUST HAVING SURGERY. Sheesh. Superwoman you may be, but even super heroes need to take it easy when they are recovering. Keep an eye on that fever!
