Twenty five years ago today I was home after leaving early from our State Wrestling Tournament (I was a manager). My best friend, Kathy, was staying the night with me. We left early because my boyfriend of 18 months broke up with me at state because I was upset that he'd given his phone number to a waitress. Seriously, the nicest thing he ever did for me.

The phone rang at 11 a.m. and it was for me.

"Hello?"

"Uh hi. This is Roy."

"!!!?"

"Oh! Hi! I thought you were still at state."

"No, we got home this morning about an hour ago."

"Oh."

"Um. I was wondering...um."

"!!?!"

"Yeah?"

"I was, uh, wondering if you would like to go to a movie today."

"!!!!!??!!!!!!!?!"

"Wow! Uh, yeah! Oh...wait."

"*"

"Um, Kathy is here. Her mom doesn't know she's home yet."

"Oh. I guess she can come."

"OH!! Okay! Cool!"

"Um, okay. Um. I'll pick you up at 1:00."

"Okay! Cool!"

"Um. Bye."

"Bye!"

Awwwww...high school romance. We sat together in the front seat of his 1965 Chevy Chevelle. We saw The Sting II. It started at 2:00 p.m. It ended at 3:40. Kathy paid for herself, but Roy paid for me. Was this a date? Does he like me? Is it a pity thing? A friend thing? What is it?

I guess it musta been a date.

So today I got to his school about 3:30, and went into the restroom before running home. I heard him outside the door. I came out and he was outside. He said, "It's 3:40"

"Oh. Yeah."

"That's what time the movie got out 25 years ago today."

I can't believe he remembered that. I remembered 2:00 because we got married at 2:00 because that was what time our date started 2.5 years prior. See what a great guy he is? Am I lucky or what?
